The entire starting grid, 33 die-cast cars
Micro Machines had a special limited edition "Starting Grid Set" of vehicles made to celebrate the Indianapolis Motor Speedway 80th Anniversary of the Indy 500 on May 26, 1996. The cars are lined out in the actual starting position behind the official pace car, a Doge Viper that is a replica of the car from the race. Each of the 33 car's number, color scheme, make of car and starting position replicates their real counterpart in the race. For example the final race winner was Buddy Lazier driving car #91, center car in the second row. The packaging has information on the cars and drivers, their qualifying speed, start and finish position in the race. The display packaging keeps the cars dust free should you choose to leave them in the case. The set is 21" long x 4" high x 4" deep. This limited edition set was only sold by FAO Schwartz and was hard to find for fans back then, impossible to find now. Hang onto yours.
