Why is this 8x10 box frame so pricey at $10.88? Same acrylic 8x10 box frame is $3.99 at Michels Art Supplies. I've bought a few. I don't get it!

I know this is an old question, but yes! It just takes some creative DIY.

My application was different from what you describe, but it can be done. What I did was put two layers of "frosted glass" contact paper around the inside of the perimeter edge (sides) of the acrylic box as a diffuser, then put a small ring (about 4" ∅) of LED tape in the center of the back of the artwork, which was painted on a board with tiny holes drilled around the top and edges (to resemble stars). I put a small notch in the bottom edge of the acrylic box for the tiny cable to run out. Pop the artwork in, skip the cardboard spacer box, and put a back on it (optional; I used black felt carefully glued to the back edge), add hardware, hang. In my case, I used a decorative hanger glued (E6000) to the outside top of the box. Something could just as easily be secured inside the top of the box, as well.

For what the OP describes, it could be even easier. Take the white insert box and carefully cut out the 'face' (not the side with the hanging holes) of it, leaving about 1/4" perimeter for stability. Install your tiny light kit in the back of that box. Carefully slice a groove in the bottom of the box for your cable and notch the acrylic if needed. Pop in your artwork and assemble. It will be enclosed but shouldn't generate much heat. If that's a concern, use a heat resistant pad between the cardboard and the LEDs, add more ventilation holes to the back, and maybe some tiny clear bumpers to the rear corners so it doesn't hang too tightly against the wall. The one I made was for a friend and she says it never gets warm. (It glows from the sides and the tiny stars.)
