A great read, and an important lesson, for young and old alike.
The story of the Lost Boys of Sudan is not a happy one, as any who know the story will attest. Yet this book manages to tell the events so that young people can understand what happened, and grasp the significance of Deng's triumph over so many obstacles. It is told in simple language, so that younger children can understand the events and the hardships. It also gives youngsters the opportunity to ask questions about what happened, and how they would cope in difficult circumstances. Having Deng as an example of what one does when left with nothing is a significant aspect of the book's message. A not-just-for-kids book.

This is a great story to educate young people on the civil war that is still taking place in Sudan. I would recommend it for any school library.
