Q: Will this hold a slim 40"?

not sure what a slim 40" is We used it with a 40" Toshiba flat screen and it worked great

Q: When folded flat against the wall, is the tv centered on the wall mount bracket?

Yes, the TV will center and fold flat with the center frame on the wall. You can also put it flat on the wall with full left or right. It's a very sturdy and very secure frame. I also mounted a 32in. TV on it. I bought a white wall frame to hide the cord. That white frame is sold separately and comes in a couple different colors.

Q: Will it hold up a 46" Sony Bravia?

This wall mount holds a 15-37" flat screen, the 47" would be too big for the mount.

Q: At it's widest point, how wide is the bracket that attaches to the wall?

From what I remember it is about 2 to 3 inches wide & 6 to 7 inches long.
