Delicious snacks for the whole family.
I don't know about you but I love to snack and this is really a bad thing when you are trying to lose weight. I had never heard of Paleo before but figured I would read this book and see if I could find some healthy snacks. The Paleo diet focuses on whole, organic and seasonal ingredients. Inside you will find good recipes for snack bars, protein snacks, kids snacks, smoothies, sweet snacks, and low calorie snacks. I love that it includes recipes for kids snacks because I for one don't want my kids to follow my bad eating habits. A lot of the recipes in this book contain ingredients most of us already have in our kitchen so we didn't have to spend a lot of money on over priced ingredients. A few of the recipes we loved were the Pumpkin Spice Bars, Hawaiian-Style Beef Jerky, Spicy Cucumber-Tuna Bites, and Grilled Fruit Kabobs. Although these are some of our favorites, there are many more tasty recipes in this Paleo Snacks book. I am so happy I am now able to have a snack in the evening and not feel guilty for eating it. I received this product as a sample to test and review. This review is solely my opinion. The information provided is what I experienced.

Recipes not tested or not well-edited: Avoid the Zucchini Bread recipe!
This review may be unfair, as I have tried only two recipes: one was good (broiled sardines), the other a disaster (Zucchini Bread). The Zucchini Bread recipe called for, among other ingredients, 3 C coconut flour and 5 large eggs. After slowly adding dry ingredients to wet, one is supposed to have a batter. After adding only about half the dry ingredients, I already had something more like the crumbs formed when making shortbread. When I was through, it was too dry even to call a dough. I ended up adding an egg and two cups of water to have only a stiff dough.... Belatedly, I looked up other Paleo Zucchini Bread recipes on the internet and discovered that the proportions of coconut flour to eggs were anywhere from I/2 to 3/4 C flour to 6-8 eggs; this is aside from other moisteners like oil/bananas/applesauce. My conclusion is that the 3C flour should probably have been 3/4 C flour. This is a huge mistake! The front of the book has a disclaimer about not being responsible for "accuracy or completeness of the contents", and now I understand why. Although recipes which do not involve baking may be fine, this one disaster makes me reluctant to trust the book or its author,

Paleo-licious!
Although advances in nutrition are constantly evolving, there has been one diet that has basically remained the same for a few thousand years now and that's the "Paleolithic" or "Cave Man" diet. John Chatham's most recent book entitled, "Paleo Snacks: A Paleo Snack Cookbook Full of Healthy Paleo Snack Foods" is a perfect example of just such. The premise of his book is that our bodies are genetically programmed to eat like our Paleolithic ancestors and in return, our bodies respond by becoming healthier, more svelte and promote optimum athletic performance. For those who may be interested in the Paleo diet and eating lifestyle, the author has come up with a veritable variety of Paleo snacks that accompany the diet for those times when an in between meal snack is desired or a smorgasbord for entertaining. The recipes are flavorful, unique and simplistic enough that even the most inexperienced cook can prepare them in an allotted time and serve them with a bit of boastfulness. Not to be confused with the popular "no carb" diet, a minimal amount of carbohydrates (no processed wheat flour and sugar) are allowed in the recipes, so one should never feel deprived or skeptical about any of the offerings in the book. Written in the most concise manner possible, after a brief introduction, the author jumps right in and whisks you away on the mouthwatering Paleo voyage by going straight to the decadent, healthy recipes. Thereafter, he gives you an insight on the whole Paleo diet, the lifestyle and its benefits to modern man relative to men that roamed the earth thousands of years ago. According to some research, the Paleo diet can be very beneficial to diabetics, those with high cholesterol or heart conditions among a list of other ailments. I just know that with recipes as delicious as these, one cannot afford to miss out on an opportunity to get healthy and eat some good food in the process.

GREAT RESOURCE!!!
I never heard of hazelnut flour until I read this insightful book on Paleo snacks and diet. What impressed me the most about reading this fabulous book is having the access to all of these incredible and easy-to-make recipes. The book emphasizes on the importance of knowing which food groups the foods we eat belong to. I used to be a strong follower of the high-fiber diet. I prefer the Paleo diet because of the balance that it offers. It provides a healthier diet containing fibers, proteins and omega-3s. Many of the recipes found in this book are readily available in every market. Thus, they are very affordable as well. From the cocoa hazelnut smoothie, to the spicy kale chips, there is a recipe for everyone in this amazing book. The Paleo diet rule is simple, "if artificial and processed or not directly from the earth, don't eat it." I am very impressed and swayed by this masterpiece. I am a firm believer in preparing and experimenting with new recipes at home with my family. I can't wait to get started on these treats with my daughter! Reading this book not only provided me with the history of the Paleo diet, but it also educated me on the health benefits associated with it as well. This book is quite resourceful and unique. It is a great book to have. I would recommend this book to anyone!
