I gave this book a 5 star! Working nughtshift, this series have been my saving grace to staying awake. Even when I get home, I can't fall asleep I just want to keep reading. I get so lost in these books.

Romance and mystery
The story continues with the new detective and her sexy counterpart, who is also a detective. A close call for her very good friend and the friend's son.

A great book to read if you like mysteries
I really liked this book. It kept my attention. I didn't want to put it down until I finished it. Just when I thought I had figured it out, I didn't. Mystery buffs will like it.

The Heart of Lies ~ Paradise Valley Mysteries ~ Book 2
Paradise Valley has its third murder within a year after twenty years of being murder free. Emily Parker the new private investigator in town gets in the middle of this one too, after solving the second one. Maggie one of her best friends meets a man on an Internet dating site, he moves to town and starts a development company to promote a new ski resort and golf course near Paradise Valley in the nearby mountains.A whirlwind romance, a fraudulent scheme, conning Maggie's brother Sully, the mayor into investing money he does not have, and a murder keep this an exciting story. Colin returns from California to be an unofficial helper on the case this time, as Emily figures out who the killer is and how to trap her into making a confession in The Heart of Lies.Emily is also troubled by the things he found about Evan, her late husband and uncovers more to the mystery surrounding his murder. The more information she gathers, the more questions she has about what happened to Evan (or David Gernard, his real name). I look forward to the third book in this series.

Only ok.
After reading the first book in the series I purchased the second book with the hope that the mystery of Evan’s death from the first book would be solved in the second book. That was not the case. It would appear that this secondary murder will be the tease that the author uses to get you to buy the next book. The murder mysteries in the first two books of the series were too easy to solve. I knew who the murders were as soon as the characters were introduced. If not for the unsolved murder of the first book I would not have purchased the second book. If an author wants to write a series you shouldn’t need a tease to get people to read the next book if your characters and stories are interesting. These were not interesting enough. I will not be purchasing any more books in this series or by this author.

A very intriguing mystery story.
The author has written a story of deception with the attempt to cheat all the people of this small town out of a great deal of money. As the plot progresses a very drastic change comes about to create an event great crime to be committed.

The Heart of Lies
Emily Parker, private eye, has known that her friend, Maggie, is looking for love. Maggie meets a wealthy man on an online dating site who tries to raise money for an investment project. But, before the project breaks ground, the man is dead and Maggie’s son is the prime suspect. Can Emily with the help of her beau, Collin, find the truth before an innocent man is sent up the river? This is the second book in the Paradise Mystery series. I loved it because it has great characters, romance and a great mystery that kept me trying to figure out whodunit. At times, the many characters confused me.

Page Turning Mystery
This is the second story in this series, and I so enjoyed it. I may have figured out who did it very early on, I guess I am more of a sleuth than Emily, but it in no way impacted my desire to keep turning the pages to make sure I was correct. There were actually several people who could been the killer, and it was fun tracing the path of each one. The way the author writes keeps the reader involved in the story right to the very last word. I am also enjoying the character development and learning more about Emily's first marriage. Super series!

Good Read
Good romantic crime novel, a genre I love and Debra Burroughs never fails to please. Love her characters and the little cliffhanger she leaves which plays right into my curious nature - have to read next in series immediately.

better than book one
I did find that this book was written in a better way than book one, the style was fluid to read. Again the story evoked no great pull of emotions from me.It was also super easy to know who killed the man, as soon as the murder was discovered I knew who had done it. Whereas in the first book I got nearly halfway through. So you see these books aren’t great crime books, they are somewhat of the easily read cozy variety only without the crazy that usually goes with cozies.

I had the culprit on 2nd attempt
plenty of twists & turns but ending not very satisfactory.Colin seems lovely but another name choice would have been better. I mean, Colin, really?
