Erickson Aluminum Truck Rack Review and Thoughts
Purchased these to carry kayaks on a short bed Dodge truck. The truck is not mine, so I needed a system that would attach to the bed without the need to drill holes to mount them. The racks utilize a clamping system to hold them to the truck bed. The clamp is positioned under the truck bed top rail. The clamp is J-shaped with a threaded shaft. The shaft extend through a hole in the racks base that sit on top of the bed rail. Nuts are screwed down to pinch the rail between the rack base and the clamp. This allows the racks to be mounted/removed in relatively short time without drilling holes or altering the vehicle. I found 2 versions of these racks, one aluminum, the other in steel. I chose aluminum for the reduces weight and rust resistance, and am quite please with this choice, even though they are approx. $50 more. They were recently used to haul 2 sit on style kayaks from PA to Florida and back. Ratchet straps were used to hold the kayaks to the racks. I experienced no problems during the trip, and expect to get many more years of use from these racks. I also plan to modify a small flat trailer so these can also be used with it. A couple comments and thoughts. These racks are basically made from extruded aluminum bars that are chopped to length and welded together. The large burrs are removed, but there are some sharp edges. These can be sanded down and this saves you money from the more expensive polished and finished racks. It would also be nice if there were some options provided, especially on the uprights for attaching hold down straps. Otherwise, these racks are a great solid rack for the money. I would definitely recommend the aluminum and would purchase again if needed.

Avoid. DO NOT BUY
I purchased this ladder rack to carry kayaks on my Ram truck. I have had the ladder rack for 1.5 years and only on my truck during the summer. The other day my daughtwr pointed out that one leg was broken. It was completely broken off. After inspecting all of the legs I found that 3 of the 4 are broken. I contacted the manufacturer about the problem. They advised me it only had a 90 day warranty and there was nothing they could do to help me.

Capacity Limit 500lbs or 800lbs?
Just received and installed my truck rack and then noticed the 'RATED CAPACITY 500 lbs.' sticker on the rack itself (black label - top of photo). I thought I had possibly misread the product description...or the box...or the manual. Nope, they all say Model: 07705 and 800 lb. I can't find any item/model reference on the rack itself. So, maybe someone inadvertently put a 500 lb rated capacity rack in the wrong box? I was going to contact the seller directly to bring this to their attention, but I'm not finding an easy way to do that. Will adjust my rating when I get clarification and/or a resolution. All in all, it appears to be a nice rack. Easy install on a 2004 Tacoma.(assembly note: Rack comes with some 3/4" nuts and many small tool kits top off at 5/16")

These are great, especially for the money
Edited after a year of ownership. The welds on one of the brackets just broke a couple months ago! Driving along and hear something rattling....finally figured out what it was. It had been about 10-11 months since we bought them, figured they’d still be warranted. Nope. 90 days! Really?! Guess that’s why they’re so cheap. Live and learn. These are great, especially for the money. The d-hook brackets that come with them don't seem to tighten all the way though so they rattle all the time. A bit annoying. We don't need them and kinda wish we left them off.

DON'T buy from Amazon Warehouse. Nice item though!
Not a slam on the item. I liked it! Just got burned with Amazon Warehouse. They are ALWAYS short parts/pieces. They accept anything on returns and people buy the item new, take out what they need, and ship back. Or, better yet, put broken/used part back in box. I'll learn my lesson someday.

Goes fairly easy. Helps if you have a second person
Goes fairly easy. Helps if you have a second person. The only only negative thing is the adjustable stops only go out so far, which barely leaves enough room to put two ladders. So if you pull on off or put it on, it will catch onto to the other, but not a deal breaker for the price. Also the cross bar is shaped like a triangle with the flat part on the bottom, and the point at the top where the ladde lays. I prefer it reversed, but again for the price it's something i will get used to. 5 stars because it was exactly what they said, fast shipping, easy install.

Perfect!
Fits the Ford Ranger. Well made thick aluminum construction. Easily secures a 28’ fiberglass ladder. The d rings are adjustable and help to hold things in place. I don’t need the rack on full time so one person installation & removal being quick and easy is a plus.

Look before you leap
I purchased this item based on reviews and the pictures shown which said it would fit my 2018 Silverado which it does if you want to have the racks about 4 ft apart. After a couple modifications I was able to spread the bases to the corners of the bed where they should be.

Nice Rack!
I like the racks and they fit my 2018 F-150 perfectly. The design and finish look professional and I got several compliments on the way they look. I use them to tote my canoe around the back roads. It is a piece of cake to secure my canoe with ratchet straps and it stays on solid as a rock over bumpy back roads.I used two layers of heat shrink tube on the ends of the j-bolts that hold the racks on and it finishes them off nicely. I haven't taken them off yet but there are only two nuts on each side of a rack that holds them on. Since all the other hardware stays together, I expect it will take only a few minutes to remove or re-install them.Easy to install, look great and work great. That is a winner.2020/11/17 Update:I lost one of the knob clamps that secure the sliding brackets on the crossbar. I contacted the company and they sent a replacement right away. Their support department was very responsive and I was very please at how quickly they responded. One small disappointment was that the knob is smaller than the original but it still works; it just looks a bit funny but I can live with it.I'm still very happy with the rack. I just took it off for the winter and it was a ten minute operation to loosen 8 nuts and pop the rack off.

Nice and sturdy
Nice and sturdy, however it is very tall and the way it bolts to the box . I had to cut some of the box to get some separation , front to back. Why did the price triple since I bought mine. its not worth the new price because of the way it connects to the box
