Harvey's Elementary Grammar and Composition

This grammar and composition book is a great guide and lesson planner (it is meant for teachers), but the comprehensive content in this thin book is sequenced logically and makes the book valuable for self-study, even beyond the elementary level, or for parents who want to help their students. There are instances where adjustments need to be made in the choice of examples and certain expressions, but that is a normal consequence of a book content first published in 1869. It does give a fascinating look at the level and system of learning at that time. Definitely worth having.

Easy to read font and nice binding. Lessons are very clear and understandable. Short yet sufficiently challenging exercises are included. A very good option for elementary level grammar that will last a couple years.

This reprint is beautiful. The cover is nostalgic, but the inside is clear and clean and fresh. We get the benefits of old-school curriculum without the stink and (often) mouse nibbles on the pages.

Great book

Besides the feel of the book (which is nice) it matches our McGuffy's readers perfectly! :) We have the hardcover copy. It is easy to read. It is also required for our son's schoolbook, Classic Curriculum Writing Series 4 Book 1 and probably for books 2, 3, and 4 also.

Finally, I found a grammar book which is not filled with brightly colored and highly distracting cartoons! Instead it is filled with grammar. Written in a straightforward manner, with plenty of exercises to drive home each point.
