This divider does not have feet, it will stand in a zig-zag formation on a low cut carpet. A higher cut carpet would pose a more difficult challenge in keeping this item stable.

Yes it will. I have mine free standing in an l shape.

I think the screen will diffuse the sun but not block it out.
