I have had this for only a short time but am impressed with its ability to expose the lead in the pencil without wasting too much in the process. Of course, any of these types of sharpeners will increase the amount of pencil lost. But, with a manual sharpener you can control this to a point (bad pun, sorry). If you need a very sharp, long point and exposed lead, this seems the best short of hand sharpening (which takes a fairly long time). I only had one breakage after sharpening a box of pencils, so that is definitely a plus. Breakage sometimes cannot be helped due to the particular type of wood used. I cannot recommend the rechargeable electric sharpener (Afmat brand) because it eats up too much pencil and stopped working within a year of buying, and there was a lot of breakage. But, their manual sharpener is, so far, doing a good job. Remember to take your time when using this; go slowly as the very sharp points achieved require some extra care.

I was very disappointed with this product. It made the pencil point really long, but it wasn't sharp. I even turned the knob in the back to get it as sharp as possible. The instructions said to use sandpaper to make the pencil sharp. But I thought the job of a pencil sharpener was to sharpen pencils, not make them round. There are only two “problems”, does not sharpen to a fine point and needs to be plugged in. Understandable, considering price but definitely not a deal breaker for how I use it. Also, I have another model that I like very much but cannot find it anymore. But, in all it’s a great sharpener if you are using it for long points. You will most like still have to use sandpaper for fine tuning. Saves the time with a razor blade.

It's great for pencils you don't worry about. Like most handle sharpeners and electric, they tend to eat up more pencil than you expect. It works great for my cheaper pencils than my little kum long point sharpener. It's solid construction and a decent price.
