Are there glues and varnishes used in the manufacturing of this spatula? Is there an odor?

I have two of the spatulas (pierced and regular), they are clean and clear of any glues and varnishes, and have only the natural wood odor, no synthetic or chemical odor, because none was used. They are solid and smooth finished pieces of beautiful wood, with a nice edge for scraping. I also can say the same for their spoons, and their honey dripper. I have tried a few of the other olive wood utensil companies, expensive ones, and their products I returned because they had glues, varnishes, rough jagged uneven manufacturing cuts, were lopsided, crooked, had pen marks from incomplete woodwork, you name it. They were made by unskilled labor, and wasted beautiful pieces of wood. This is the only company I found to be very satisfactory. They don't make other pieces, but I find I don't necessarily need other pieces when a couple basics work so well. I have two sets, one for sweet and one for savory. I hope this helps.

Why not treat with olive oil? Is mineral oil better than it's own "blood"?

Yes, olive oil will become rancid and mineral oil will not.  However, if you use this frequently, and especially if you commit the sin of abusing it in the dishwasher, neither oil will last long on this.  I find that if I use this daily, that olive oil is o.k. because it wears off before it becomes rancid. and I NEVER put something like this in the dishwasher

As far as I know, Italy. That is why I bought them. I threw away all the others that I had that were from China and could not find any that were made in USA. Then I found these. Love them. They have held up very well, though I do NOT put them in the dishwasher. I am fairly sure it said where they were made in the description or I would not have bought them. Good luck!

Question 4

How wide is the blade please?  The one we got here is only 2 3/4" wide.   I also noticed the Island Bamboo Spatula that appear wide but by how much?

My spatula blade is 3" at its widest.  I stays at that width about halfway down, then gradually tapers down to the handle.  Like another reviewer, I rounded off the corners on the handle with sandpaper for a more comfortable grip.  I use this spatula a lot, especially for eggs, and turning foods that are chopped finely or diced, such as onions or cabbage.
