Wow, I sure loved this true life adventure book. Though I'm not a whitewater river running guy, but I do other outdoor adventures, one doesn't need to be to enjoy this book and what this guy did over and over again. Way ahead of his time. I had a hard time putting the book down each night. And of course like others, the ending left many questions that results in only speculation. Much like "Into the Wild" ended with - speculation.

Engaging history of a young man who finds fulfillment in building boats and running rivers, but discovers that this focus is too narrow for true and lasting happiness. I enjoyed every page of this well written and thoroughly researched book.

One of the greatest adventurers of modern, if not all, time. Period.

River guiding is not all glory and paddling off into the sunset. Hard work, physical hardship and difficult relationships are more apt to snap a guides life. This book recounts all these things brilliantly, the authors actually know of what they write about.
