Works great
So I hesitated before ordering this unit. I was looking at more commercial-grade units, for a lot more money. How could this be any better than an "easy bake oven" from my generation? Well, I am absolutely thrilled with the ability of this unit to engrave in wood. I've not yet tried the cutting ability, but as far as engraving, there are no worries here.

Excellent Laser cutter for my current interest
This is the best laser printer I could have purchased for the features and quality this unit has. The online information supporting this specific model has been plentiful and informative. Even upgrades for the system are becoming available and will be easy to do. My only annoyances have been that my purchase did not come with 'risers' to use on tall items or the rotator accessory, however I found an easy workaround for that problem and may not need them now. I am also unhappy that they mention '60w' in the advertisement. This Xtool unit has a 10watt laser diode, but the unit consumes 60w in operation. However the 10w laser can do everything I want to do for now. There are some diode laser systems that are cheaper, but none are better from what I have been able to find.

good machine but having problems linking computer
The actual xtool itself seems to be a good machine. Easy to put together and set up but we're having issues linking the software with the machine. We've tried all of the suggested "fixes" we've received from other buyers on their blog page and from their support team as well. From what we can tell, our machine has a problem with the actual mother board. We're waiting now for the company to send us a new one to install and see if that fixes the problem. So we've had the engraver for two weeks but are unable to actually use it or try it out because of the software issue. Hopefully we will get this resolved soon. Pretty disappointing not being able to use it.

Outstanding device for the price
(Note: I haven't needed to contact xTool's Tech Support so I didn't rate it.)The xTool D1 arrived very nicely and neatly packaged in a solidly constructed cardboard box with packing material molded to fit the individual parts. There is very little chance of things bouncing around and breaking during shipment. The machine itself is easy to assemble with the exception of some tight fitting cable connectors that made me a little nervous about bending pins, especially on the laser unit. Other than that, the parts are precision machined and fit together perfectly. The software user interface is easy to understand due to the clean, layman friendly appearance. It is missing some features more experienced laser engraver users expect but those limitations don't really hinder the software's intended function. The D1 is now compatible with the popular LightBurn software which costs around $120.00. I will be looking into purchasing LightBurn in the near future once I have a strong grasp of the D1's capabilities and a little more experience. The machine is very quiet during operation. Depending upon the type of material you are engraving, smoke volume varies. xTool sells an air assist attachment that eliminates the smoke and provides cleaner engraving by reducing if not completely eliminating burn marks along edges when using the D1 to cut materials. Yes the D1 can cut through thin materials about 1/8" (3mm) thick. I've only tried it with a scrap piece of luan plywood and thus I cannot attest to its effectiveness with other materials. The other neat function is the capability to engrave onto rounded surfaces. I did not purchase the rotary attachment so I cannot speak as to its effectiveness. Videos of the device working are pretty impressive though I tend to reserve judgement until I actually use the attachment. The work area is approximately 20"x20" (500mm) which is a nice space in which to do small engraving projects. xTool also sells additional pedestals to increase the working height. You'll need those with the rotary attachment. In the event that the laser is damaged or stops working, xTool sells replacement modules for around $260.00. Not really cheap but it's nice to know they are available. If I were to present one complaint about the D1 it is the fact that there's no built in way to determine if the piece you are engraving is squared with the machine. I'm devising a working surface with a grid aligned with the D1 to be perfectly squared. If the piece is even slightly out of alignment with the D1, you'll notice the design is slanted on your finished product. It's really irritating to go through the setup, wait for the engraving to finish, and discover the alignment was slightly off and you have just wasted time and a piece of material.Overall, the xTool D1 is a great starter device for someone interested in getting into laser engraving. I highly recommend it.

WOW!
I was looking for something to engrave wood and cylinders. I was amazed at what this tool was able to do. This 10W laser is well constructed. the construction of the laser makes sure it is square. It is upgradeable, but if I was going to do it all over again, I would get the Pro version and I would get it in red. For faster engraving and cutting, look at the 20 watt laser. It is a lot more money, but If you are using this for a side hustle or wanting to start a business it will pay for itself. All in all, I really like my laser. I have been using it now for the past month creating different wood engravings and etching hot/cold tumblers. For beginners, the Xtool software is a great way to get started. Once you get a little experience, this tool also works with Lightburn. Lightburn is a software with a little bit more options. If you don't believe me, check out YouTube channel Build Dad Build.

Awesome machine!
Easy to assemble, easy to use, very well built. Overall super satisfied and would definitely recommend. Haven’t used tech support so can’t attest to how that goes. A+ for me

Great Compared to Other Machines
I went through a couple of the cheaper machines, which might be OK if all you are cutting is paper. Don't expect to cut 10mm wood with one pass, but I knew that going in, since I have a 40W C02 machine. The build quality is far superior to the cheaper machines and worth the extra cost. Works great with LightBurn if you use the configuration file available at the Xtool support sight.Don't be put off by the few extra $$ this machine costs.. It is worth much more compared to the cheaper machines.
