Q: Is this cruelty-free?

Silk comes from the cocoon of the silk worm larvae. They are boiled or steamed to kill the worm before unwinding the mile long single strand of silk from each cocoon. Not exactly cruelty free. Amazon does sell cruelty free silk made from cocoons the mature moth cut open to escape from. This makes the silk unusable for cloth as the single strand is severed into many short strands. That doesn’t matter for soap makers. Search for cruelty free silk.

Q: How is the Tussah Silk fibers added to moisturizers?

My opinion: it's best to only use in products that get pretty hot, like soapmaking. I cut a short section and separate the fibers, put it in the water a few fibers at a time right after adding lye because that's when it's the hottest. Most of the lotions, etc that I make cannot be allowed to get that hot, so this may not be something you can use silk for.

Q: Will the silk melt in the lye solution when using 100% frozen milk as a water replacement? (cp soap making)

I haven't melted it in lye using milk. Only water. But I will guess that it will, it just may take longer.
