Q: How does it lock into the desired height? I just got this - Mine keeps lowering easily and wont stay up.

No. it does not. Plus the surface area is A LOT smaller than the usual styrofoam head. You will have no support for styling if this is the intention.

Q: how big around is this and will it fit into a small wig case?

It fit into a medium size duffel bag
