Early Indians (Pb)

Updated take on India's Pre-History. Perfect read bringing latest research to readers.
India has had a weird relationship with its history prior to Mauryan empire. History by its nature is imprecise but, in this case, confusion is compounded by the fact that Harappan script remains undeciphered and there are very few archaeological remains of Vedic society. The confusion has only been furthered by ideologically motivated or imaginative thinkers who have colored this phase of history with their own agendas. Top example remains forcibly trying to conflate Harrapans with Vedic society by force fitting Harrapan civilization as Sarasvati civilization. Other examples include myths of Aryan purity, artificial divide between Dravidians & North Indians and nature and scale of Vedic society itself. What remains underappreciated in this mess is that Harappan Civilisation was the largest and most widespread of its time with large population and huge cities – which ideally should make us proud. We somehow have failed to relate to our Harrapan ancestors (yes ancestors) in our cultural consciousness. This book masterfully breaks through all this confusion and provides clarity and perspective to answer all such questions. The modern science of genetics, linguistics, paleo-geology, anthropology, and archaeology are now beginning to provide a clearer picture and this book translates the latest ideas for laymen. The narrative that emerges only makes us prouder as Indians and brings us closer to our own heritage. The message of unity in diversity is not only a slogan but is integral part of our own genetic makeup and our rich historical story.P.S. I am further excited to pay a visit to scores of Harappan sites after reading this book.

Brilliant: history, geography and population genetics were never more interesting!
Every Indian should read this book. Thoroughly researched and written in a way that the layman can understand. I hope the content is included in our textbooks and taught in every classroom, not just in India, but around the world. This book is a keepsake. Kudos to Tony Joseph. I hope the author keeps updating this book even as new research is published!

well-built work done
I will be judging based on the work done with the help of research in various areas. Based on that I will say it's very well researched and built into a sequential story. It's worth reading.

Truth, nothing but truth
I have read this book. A very good one. Worth to translate in all the Indian languages. From the research results of1 Archaeology2 Linguistics3 Population genome study4 Individual genetic study5 Ancient genetic study6 Geological researchthe author is able to prove beyond doubt the following1 All the people living in the world as on date are descendants of the people who moved out of Africa by 65,000 years ago. All the people living in India now are only migrants (i.e descendants of migrant). We have replaced the early people who lived then ( 40000 years ago)in India with out any trace (including genetic lineage) long before. (approx 30,000 years before).2 We, the present people of India, are all migrants only. The last migrants are Aryans from central Asia steppe.3 Harappan civilisation and their language are Dravidian. No weapon used for war was found in Harappan civilisations which is an unique feature in the world till now. No big palaces, no big temples/ worshipping place found. This civilisation looks to be not ruled by any king and looks to be ruled by some elite group. With 1 million sqkm spread and with many cities this has existed for about 700 years when in peak, peacefully.4 When Aryans came to India, the Harappan civilisation started to decline already due to long drought.5 The caste system was not existing before 100 BCE.6 Well before the coming of the caste system, the mixing of race and culture has taken place.7 The caste system was introduced by Brahmins consciously to elevate them around 100 BCE . Which has pushed back India culturally and economically. The caste system,by restricting the genetic mix, the Indian remained till today a small small groups of population, rather than as one Nationality ( genetically and culturally). ( we have read this in our history books by the Sentence - The Magadha/ Mourya empire came to an end by the killing of the last Magadha/ Mourya king by his general Pushya Mitra Sungan( who is a Brahmin). He has established the Sungam Dynasty.8 We share 65% of our genes with people who moved to India around 40 000 years ago. i.e. our genetic make up and the genetic make up of SC & ST people are no different. All are same.9 Within the other 35%, North Indians share more genes with Aryans; south indians less. Within that the brahmin castes are having more Aryan genes.10 Finally, we are all migrants, only the date is different.I hope everyone interested in this subject will enjoy reading this book.
