I wear a 9, ordered a 9 & they are a bit "roomie"

Q: Are the tops of the shoe high and snug enough so that dry sand does not get in when walking on the beach?

The tops are so tight that you are unable to fit you heel inside the shoe! I broke 2 shoe horns attempting to do so. As a result in order to fit I had to cut a slit down the back of the the seam.
