Proof that phonics instruction alone is not enough!
I picked up this book as an end of semester thank you gift for my professor. I think P is for Pterodactyl is a tounge in cheek alphabet book that was the perfect thing to present to a teacher of literacy. This is a must have companion to other alphabet books. When people ask, "What about phonics instruction?" This book shows why phonics is not enough. It is simply one small part of literacy instruction. Funny, unconventional, and irreverent, you'll laugh and nod along as you read from A-Z! Very nicely priced too, about what you might spend on a high quality greeting card, but this is something that really has staying power. Plus, it can be used in the college classroom as an example of the importance of a multi-faceted approach to literacy instruction.

Very fun book adults will like it
I enjoyed this fun book full of the oddities of English. It has a glossary in the back for weird words that one may have never heard of.

Love the premise but not the page for O.
I bought this as a present for my niece and nephew for Christmas and absolutely loved it! However I'm very grateful that me and my husband sat down and read it before we gifted it (we did this solely to get a laugh out of the book). I was not happy to see what was on the O page about Ouija boards as I have pictured. So I took it up on myself to make my niece and nephew a different page for O in few hours we had. I went with Otters yet didnt have enough time to succeed in figuring out plenty of O words to include. We gifted the book with the new O page that I made and I got to read it to my niece last weekend actually and my page is taped over the original O page.So I loved the book and the idea behind it. However I hate the page they have for O and had God not gifted me with the ability to draw it would have been a pointless purchase as I would not have gifted it.Overall I love this book but it's important to be aware that this page is included.

Absolutely Wonderful Book, for Kids & Adults
Like a classic Bugs Bunny cartoon, it is clever and well suited for all ages. I originally bought it for myself. Now I have to keep an eye on it because my best friend loved it too, and has a daughter who teaches elementary school who would love it too ! School districts should buy this book by the case !

Hilarious and very clever
My niece has this for her eldest, loved it and bought it for a colleague’s nephew. Big hit with him. It’s a wonderful introduction to the fun complexities of English, with great illustrations. And educational too, of course, but it’s really more about FUN and silliness. Highly recommended for people growing up speaking English, might be a challenge for others.

This is a fun book about some of the quirks one finds in every-day English
I bought two copies - one for our household, and one for my sisters. I think they'll love it. Plenty of wordplay around the examples.

The perfect book to confuse or entertain your friend’s 6 year olds!
The perfect book to confuse or entertain your friend’s 6 year olds! Not to mention to remind us the quirks of English language and chuckle.Once you’ve read this, I bet you’ll have a chuckle every time you see the cover. For fellow entomology nerds — this digs into the depths of your psyche and heaves out the skeletons from your phonic closet.

Not good packaged
It's a hard spine with a soft paper cover, just tossed in a thin cardboard protector, my paper cover was slightly bent/creased in some spots.
