A useful guide to starting life as a social worker
I've been an ASYE social worker now for two months and this is the sort of book that I should have been given when I first started. It has lots of useful tips in it and some useful chapters that encourage reflective and resilient practice. A very useful book to have...if you can find time to read it!

Great book but would have been more helpful earlier
This is great if you have done the more traditional route into social work but I did frontline where we do an intensive year of training on the job. I then brought this book as an asye and found I already knew most of it as technically I’d already been doing the job for a year. Would have been great as a student. It’s packed with helpful info for beginners.

Excellent
I am finding this book particularly useful, as a Practice Educator who works with final placement social work students and NQSW’s. The nine domains of the Professional Capabilities Framework link clearly and concisely to the exercises and case studies within this book.I only purchased this book last week but, I am already utilising Exercise One (page 128) as this is a useful tool for all students to relate to. For instance one of the questions of this exercise is ‘How does the PCF relate to not just the ASYE but also CPD and career development?’ This book has many more useful exercises and case studies and in my opinion is it should be on all Practice Educators, Supervisors and Assessors reading lists.
