One knurled nut locks the shovel/pick and the position of the handle into place. The mechanism works well. The manufacturer clearly shows the product dimensions in the advertising, but I was a bit surprised that this was smaller than my old army surplus tool. Now, that's entirely on me - and this is not presented in a negative light. When digging snow out from under your car, a smaller shovel head may very well be appreciated. It also makes the tool lighter in a backpack, and it takes up less room, too. The tool comes with a nice canvas pouch for storage. I am pleased with the quality and price of this tool. Buy one for each of your vehicles!

Bought this for our backyard and camping needs. The tool is solidly made and fits together tightly. The fork is sharp, the hula works as it should, it's nice to have a pick and saw. One of the features we liked was that it folds down for packing and moving. Very happy with this purchase.

This is a great little shovel I use it to break up dirt in my raised bed garden and dig trenches. The only reason I'm not giving it five stars is when you have it open and go to tighten down the nut it seems like it's just a few thread short of totally tightening down... Other than that it feels very solid I will probably get one for each of my vehicles in case of getting stuck.

I do some driving in the country where there are long stretches of nothing. I bought this for emergencies to have in my truck. It folds up easy and sits in the pouch nicely, each time. The d ring helps it to lock in place so the handle and spade can maintain their sturdiness. I was able to dig into TX clay and dry sediment with relative ease. It works as intended for travel/camping/emergencies but is not meant to replace a real shovel/pick axe.

Great tool compact easy to use does the job.

I bought this shovel to clear boulders out of the backroads of NC only to discover 18” size is little larger than a garden spade. I will be ordering a larger shovel.

A must have for you bug-out-bag or just as a small handy tool around the house.

Used on last camping trip and came in very handy (particularly the pick part). It’s a decent quality, which is fine for infrequent camping trips (3x/year). Wish I’d paid attention more to handle, it doesn’t telescope out at all, so the torque (?) isn’t great when digging/using pick axe. Good enough for us - not ‘survival’ quality though.

It is a really good compact emergency tool.

excellent snow shovel for my car. Folds, takes up very little room, It is strong steel, yet big enough for shovelling the car out of the snow. I just hope I don't need to !

Product seems good. I will have a chance to give it a test later in the spring and summer.

Update after a couple of months : add a star, abused it with one week at the beach (paint went off a bit, couple of places have rusted but it holds good), after that one week doing excavation in the backyard (more dings but still alive). Ultimately...that is a good product.Used by my son (9) on a riverbank. He gave a couple of blows on a driftwood and it bent (angle = 15%). I was abble to straighen it with blows of my own... Was expecting better quality.
