The Dark Tome (The Kingdom of the Gods)

Fun and Engaging Read
Full disclosure - Brev is a personal friend and gaming buddy. But that certainly did not factor into my enjoyment of this book. He has taken many of the standard fantasy tropes and ideas from various fantasy settings and subverted them just enough to be fresh while still being very recognisable. I'm looking forward to exploring more of Mith and learning more about the cast of misfits and miscreants that he has brought to life here.

A Fantasy Romp
This series-starter is a self-contained adventure that leaves the reader wondering what comes next. I'm sure the author will be happy to answer that in future books. For fans of fantasy, the ensemble of characters has something for practically everyone to enjoy.

A really fun read!
The Dark Tome was a really fun read. It was a fast paced, enjoyable book. As I followed along, the story didn't lag behind the action. I didn't want to put this book down and was excited to know what was going to happen next. It was a non-stop adventure . I'm looking forward to the next book.

A good read... fast paced and exciting. Can’t wait for book two
This book has all the things I like!! Magic, mayhem, heroes, zombies !! Very reminiscent of Lord of the Rings with a dash of Harry Potter and The Walking Dead.

A magical story that sucks you into its world from the beginning.
Full disclosure: Brev is like family to me, and I had the privilege of reading this pre-publication. Friendship aside, though, this wonderful story grabs you right from its opening - it sucks you in immediately. The language, like the main characters, is charming and magical, almost poetic in parts. Brev has a very conversational style of writing, and he paints pictures with words. You'll have no problems in imagining this scene, or that scene, or the individual landscapes. It's all there in the page for you to enjoy. It might sound too easy or lazy, and would do Brev a disservice, to say it put me in mind of LOTR. But the truth is, it does a little. That's the nature of the genre. I also had warm memories of Zelazny's Great Book of Amber, and Rothfuss' Name of the Wind. Ultimately, the story is like an epic game of Dungeons & Dragons brought to life. And it doesn't get more magical than that.
