Wow! Surprisingly spicy! At first sniff, you do get the strong aldehydes other reviewers mentioned- the soapy scent that kind of makes it smell like bathroom soap, but then the sandalwood and the florals kick in. The sandalwood is very strong, much more than I expected but the florals come through enough that it doesn’t smell like a men’s cologne. The geranium and heliotrope is the strongest - very green and woodsy with the orange flower also coming through. I don’t smell the vetiver and tea rose, but I assume they balance out the scent because it is subtle and not as aggressively floral and more green and woodsy than I expected. I was curious about this perfume mostly because it is so old and I wanted to get a whiff of history- especially of the Belle Époque! It’s rare you can find perfumes that are available in an iteration that is similar to a previous era at an affordable price. And knowing about its cultural history as a fragrance in Voodoo makes it more awe inspiring! I was aware of its use in spiritual practices, and in the dry down after the spray it smells exactly like incense- it would be perfect as an offering.I’ve smelled plenty of modern oriental perfumes, and quite a few sandalwood ones and I can say this is completely different from all of them. This is a strong scent, but it’s not loud. It’s not juicy or peppery or too floral like say, Black Opium. And it’s not super bright and woodsy like Santal 33. It’s it’s own comforting powdery woody spicy thing with just a whisper of flowers by the end. Very short life for the florals - but as a lover of sandalwood I don’t mind
