Far better than the Chameleon 7 Stretch WP
I have worn Merrell Chameleon Stretch WP shoes as my every day shoes since the original Chameleon Stretch WP (and Moab WP for years prior to that). I still think the original Chameleon was the most durable and most comfortable, but the Chameleon 8 is a close second. My experience with two pairs of the Chameleon 7 WP was quite negative. Both pairs fell apart within 60 days, with the waterproof liner detaching from the shoe in one, thus eliminating any notion of being waterproof. I am very happy with the Chameleon 8 WP thus far. Extremely comfortable, and it seems very sturdy. I have a somewhat narrow foot and Merrell's fit me perfectly.

Excellent Merrill Hiking Shoes
These hiking shoes are excellent for those looking for a comfortable waterproof option for rugged hiking environments. I wore them in Montana on rugged trails and even climbing a rocky ravine and they performed well. They feel warm in cold weather and also seem very waterproof. They also are very comfortable for urban wear (airports, city streets etc) and hug and support your feet. I feel ready to deal with what ever terrain or physical activity is required in them. I wasn't sure if I would like the slip on aspect (no laces) but I do in this boot. ( I think they look good (the Mrs. thinks less of them in that department). They do warm up a bit, like a boot, so be advised that, like any boot, your feet may sweat some and that is the only negative I have found (including the foot smell after a long day out in them). That being said, the trade off is well worth it in my opinion and any boot would likely do the same. They are excellent Merrill's and I would and have recommend to others. I may also buy another style in the same shoe for variety.

Extremely overrated
Very uncomfortable shoe. Not much padding, very stiff. Size runs small so lots of chafing even with good socks. I'm sorry, but for the exorbitant price my expectations were high and this shoe failed to deliver. One star for nice design. Don't believe the hype like I did.

Squeak, Squeak, Squeak, Squeak, Squeak, but only on the left foot at least
I have owned a few pairs of these shoes over the years and enjoyed hiking, driving, and all-day wearing. They are just so comfortable and durable. I work from home so I am not wearing shoes so often anymore but as it started to warm up, I have hiked twice with these and then wore them to an indoor sporting event for my daughter. To my embarrassment, every step I took walking down the hallways, a pronounced squeak would take place like I was letting out little farts with every other step. I thought it could have been the insole warming up and a little moisture building up inside the shoe and would deal with it.When I got home, I took the insole out and let them air out overnight. In the morning, I put a little baby powder underneath the insole to alleviate friction that I thought was causing the squeaks but it isn't the insole. I even removed the insole completely and walked in them and every left footstep, the loud fart sound came out from the outerside of the shoe. I looked at what I could do and it is definitely in between the layers of the shoe and nothing I can get inside of to reduce the friction or whatever.I used to work in the shoe manufacturing industry for five years so I have encountered this and know how to fix it and without removing stitching and resewing, there isn't any way to fix the squeak. Unfortunate for a semi expensive hiking shoe to say the very least.

Stiffer than previous versions, but still wear great
This version if definitely stiffer than previous versions I’ve owned (6). They’re difficult to put on using the loop on the heel, to the degree that I had to purchase a shoe spoon to avoid damaging the inner fabric of heels. Once you have them on they provide all day comfort. I’ll buy again.

Excellent slip-on hiking shoe
For some reason, most shoe manufacturers have stopped offering many options of slip-on, elastic lace hiking shoes. Shoes with regular laces are a pain if you have to put them on and take them off frequently and for less agile folks bending over to tie shoe laces is a problem unless they sit down. I have had several models of Merrell slip on hiking shoes in the past and loved them, but these Cam 8's were the only model I could find now that were also waterproof. Unfortunately, they are a bit pricey at $140, but they are definitely quality shoes, very comfortble, and I found they require no "break-in" period.

Merrell Men's Chameleon 8
This shoe has always been my favorite. The most recent purchase doesn't disappoint. Everything I get a new pair, I have a 2-3 week break in period before they become a better fit. These are no exception. They seem to relax a bit in the uppers after this period and feel so much more comfortable. But the only thing is that they do seem a slight bit tight getting them on at first. Fortunate, after the first 2-3 weeks they are fine.Chameleons have been the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn!
