Pineapple guava
We're always in the market for unusual fruit trees and shrubs for our farm. After reading about pineapple guava we had to give it a try. We purchased two plants because they produce more fruit if cross polination is available. Our trees survived several hard freezes, into the teens, their first winter. We did cover them with buckets on the coldest nights. There was little growth in the spring and we worried about how they would do when our hot/dry summer finally began. We were suprised when, during the heat of summer, the little plants suddenly began to thrive. One of the trees which was planted in rich soil doubled in size. The other, with a less favorable location (planted in clay soil) grew as well, but not so much as the other. We did water them occassionally even though dry weather never really seemed to effect them. The plants are two years old now and doing very well. We hope to get fruit in two or three years.UPDATE: 11/01/12. Received our first crop of fruit this year. Only a couple of dozen fruit, but the plants are still small. This is a slow to moderat growing plant. The fruit is unusual and different. Highly recommended for those who like to try unusual fruit!

died within first month
I really was hoping this would grow, but, it did not. Save your money and go to a local home store and buy it from their tree dept.

I like this plant
I have a pineapple guava I'd bough that was about 2 feet tall, and it's been pretty low maintenance and good for the end of the flower bed. I trim it once or twice a year and it's pretty easy to trim. It is slow growing. I just bought another one from Amazon (Hirts), and it was delivered very quickly and the plant is in great shape. The only thing I was a bit disappointed was that the plant was only 8-10 inches tall! Oh well. At least it's perfectly healthy.

Beautiful plant
The plant that arrived, on time, was about 1 foot tall. It was in great shape. There was new growth visible on the plant when it arrived. I potted it and it looks like it will flourish quite well for years. I would certainly purchase again if it became available.

One Star
The plant we received is most definitely not a pineapple guava. The leaves and flowers are completely different.
