Q: Will these CDI boxes work on a 1988 Force 85 hp outboard ?

Don’t think so ordered mine for V6 1998 Mercury 2.5L 200 HP Black Max.

Q: Will these work with a 1978 mariner 115 inline motor

If its a inline 6cyl and the wiring is the same as what you have then I believe they will work..

I can't say for sure but you should be able to tell by looking on the motor, under the cover. I purchased these for a 1982 V6 Mariner 150hp. There were 2 of them on my V6 engine! You could also google the part number and see what it says!
