The shelf is hardwood shelf and it`s really pretty and the packaging is very nice. Even USPS shipping badly and beat up the box packaging badly the wood shelves are still perfect without a dent. I bought 2 in a roll as it fits my living room perfectly and work well for displaying lego collection. Even though there the shelf feet got smashed to pieces by the shipping company, I contacted the seller and they sent out replacement parts pretty quickly. Really appreciate the awesome customer service solving the problem quickly, saving me the trouble of getting a replacement for this large item.

I read a few reviews, many stating that they love the hard wood BUT didn't enjoy the experience of assembling. The assembly instructions were straight forward, and I had no issues with the alignment that others mentioned. I simply left the screws a little bit loose until I had all of the shelves connected, tighted it up, and was done. Full assembly took me 20 or 25 minutes.Additionally, this unit came with kits to secure the unit to the wall, which is ideal. The bookshelf is plenty sturdy, but with two cats I want to make sure it isn't going anywhere, as the 5 tier is pretty tall.All in all I couldn't be more thrilled with this piece. High quality wood brings some extra energy to the room. This wood is the same quality as my West Elm dining table, which says a lot for the value - as West Elm would charge upwards of $750 for something of this size.

This shelf is so easy to assemble and is beautiful. People that have seen it in my computer room have ordered for themselves because it is so good looking!

Assembling does kinda need 2 people at one point. I have ordered 3 of these shelves over time because they look amazing and are obviously such high quality. I have searched amazon for hardwood, quality shelves and this is definitely the best quality out there that is still affordable!

This shelf is amazing. I will say when we planned on buying it, we took the measurements and then ordered baskets for it not taking into account the x brace on the back but we worked that out. This is in our living room and it change the flow so much. We used to have a black shelf there and it sucked up so much light and this, it's just a breath of fresh air.I'm not sure why people are complaining about the wood or fake wood. I'm no carpenter but my engineer hubby was/is impressed with the materials. They somehow stacked two boards of.... gasp* wood and so there is a seam; however, if there weren't two boards there and with the narrow depth of the board they would be fragile. You'd be lucky to put 15 lbs on it spread out so keep that in mind and that "seam" is actually a good thing.Our bottom two shelves have soft baskets and then we even have a seagrass basket from PB and there are no scratches on it. The bottom two shelves are used for toy storage and with two toddlers constantly pulling the baskets down, it's holding up very well.

Bought this shelf a little while ago and only recently found time to assemble it. It wasn't too hard to assemble. Having a second person to help will make the part where you need to get the second legs lined up easier. Feels nice and sturdy once assembled. I had an issue where one of the set of legs was missing screw holes for 2 of the 5 shelves. I'm not putting anything super heavy on it so it doesn't feel like that'll be a problem, but I hope they improve their quality control so that this doesn't happen anymore. It's not a widespread problem from what I can tell, but it's still a problem. It's an otherwise excellent shelf.

I needed a set of shelves for a smallish room, and wanted something that would fit into the available space without appearing heavy. This bookcase fit perfectly, and the open shelving allows the wall behind to show through. It's more than able to store a bunch of very heavy books and glass paperweights -- and no wobbles.

I bought this for my office to hold books…but mostly plants. The construction is super sturdy, the real wood seems like it will last forever. It looks good, there’s really nothing not to like. The one thing for me is the shelf spacing is a touch small for anything other than small plants but that's a personal need, not the original intent for the shelf so can't count against it.
