Don't get this if you're not confident in using stones proficiently. My first go at was, i'd say was a bit of a waste. However, after practicing several times, this brought out the extra sharpness. I start from 800 and end at 10000 (this stone). It's a bit on the thinner side (if you're used to the Chosera series). After finishing use, I dry it with a towel and leave it to air dry at least 24 hours before packing it back in the box.

I bought this tone several years ago and have used it ever since. I also have Shapton glasstone 10,000 and Shapton professional 12000 stones for comparison. These are all excellent stones. Used for sharpening kitchen knives, the Naniwa is best used after the edge is well and truly formed (eg on 4000 grit stone). It gives a superb scary sharp edge on knives. Note: must use trailing stroke, as the stone is quite soft and knife edge will dig into it. Verdict:- Up there with the very best finishing stones.

Super smooth stone. I also own a Shapton 12k glass. Both are one-sided splash stones. I would most definitely buy this again! I don’t know what all the negative stuff is about...

Arrived with a hairline crack and a couple of small fragments broken off... Unfortunate rough handling...

Finally has the need to use after purchase. The grit is inconsistent. After first use, there are larger grits that surfaced and scratch up my knife. Now it’s after the return period to get a refund. 😓
