Great book for Japanese joinery.

I’m a woodworker and I have a fair knowledge of joints of many different kinds. I’m improving my knowledge of Japanese joinery, yet this book, claiming to be an introduction for both beginners and intermediate woodworkers, is neither. Very few drawings or photographs of any true Japanese joints. One photo claims a locking mitre joint is Japanese yet it is a joint done with a router bit. Totally bogus! Talks about tools such as types of saws, gimlets, and hammers, measuring tools yet no pictures to go with the names. One chapter talks about making a stool. The author used a Western hand plane shown in one picture, a Western chisel in an other picture and a western jigsaw yet not one Japanese joint. Only Western mortise and tenons. The book is a total fraud and offers nothing in the way of understanding about Japanese joinery. I cannot recommend this book to anyone.

This two books are both very poorly written, sparsely illustrated, and have only a few poorly designed projects that are very under-illustrated. They have occasional words in English that are strung together in an unedited fashion, often quite ungrammatic, and the author repeats significant amounts of text between the first and second parts in an apparent desire to fill the written page. Both books are poorly laid out, and neither are not appropriate in an ebook environment. Otherwise, if you want to learn about Japanese wood and Shinto animism, a few paragraphs are coherent. They are not professional or coherent treatments of Japanese joinery, but appear to be two hack jobs that were rushed to press. I am deeply disappointed in Amazon for allowing them to be listed.

If you looking for a book that will "show" you how to make Japanese joinery this is not the book. The pictures are poor and virtually useless in most cases. I'm a visual learner, but I won't be learning anything from this book since the picture look like a poor paper copier ran out of toner (contrast is terrible).

I haven't built anything yet but the book seems straight forward.

This book explains what Japanese joinery is along with a couple definitions of joinery words (mortise etc.) but not very instructional.

rudimentary instructions, no good diagrams and poor black and white photos. If you want to learn Japanese joinery you are already advanced as a wood worker and this book is not helpful at all

There is not mutch to like about it. Simple instructions nothing usefull, everything is in imperial.

Very interesting book to read and learn from if want more than tongue and groove joints
