Good tea
I have used Davidson Tea for years, and enjoy each type. Especially glad they have organic decaffeinated.

Good tea
My wife is very happy with this tea. We purchase this regularly and it is so much better than the store bought premium teas.

I like this tea
I prefer loose-leaf tea, and when I drink it, I drink a pot or two at a time. With caffeinated tea, I get severely wired. This is lovely, although you need to be careful brewing. I was disappointed with my first few pots, so I changed my brewing habits. I heat the water to 190 F (about 90 C) instead of boiling. And I time for 2 minutes, although it's probably more like 2:30 when you count everything that happens on either side of the timer running. That helped a lot -- no more bitter tea. Instead, it's quite lovely. I use 3 slightly-heaping teaspoons of leaves for my modest-sized teapot.I love it because it's comforting, and I can drink as much as I want without getting wired. Great after dinner. If you drink by the pot like I do, you should also consider some sort of insulated carafe.

Tastes great when you use more
I end up using about 20 ML (1.35 T) per mug to get the taste I want, which seems like a lot - but it's still cheaper than buying a box of 20 bags at a time, esp. when I often have to use two decaf bags per mug! The taste is "smokier" to me than I expected, but I think this might actually be what "malty" tastes like? I like it, in any case. I am a new devotee!

VERY POOR QUALITY TASTES AWFUL - zero customer service, called and emailed
VERY POOR QUALITY TASTES AWFUL used to be a middle quality tea but now is the worst. It's mostly stems, now. There should be none. Bought it regularly for years This used to be around middle quality but now just tastes like dirt. Tried buying more, months apart, and switching to boiling water in a super clean pot, tried different bottled waters, new tea ball, nope- it's the tea. Clipper was always my second choice and hasn't changed at all. Don't pay top dollar for the lowest possible quality, this isn't tea if you're getting more stems than leaves now. Phoned and emailed customer service multiple times, they just ignore you completely. Thwy know the problem, they just don't care enough to even reply.

Perfect for Iced Tea
I found that using two teaspoons per 6 ounces creates a flavor I can actually taste, unlike most decaffeinated teas. This is by far the best decaffeinated tea I've ever tasted, and I have tried many.

Hot tip: use the strict English brewing method and this is pretty good
The good news is that this is one of the better decaf teas on the market and at a fair price. The bad news is, it's still not great, at least for drinking hot. NOTE: I have raised this tea a star to three, because I discovered that the key to brewing this hot is to use the traditional English method. Don't use a bag or a perforated tea spoon or basket filter in the pot or glass. Dump the loose tea directly in a teapot, where it can mix freely with all the water. Use roughly 50% more tea than non-decaf. Don't stir. Brew for a few minutes to your desired strength, then pour into a cup through a strainer. This results in a pretty decent hot cuppa with the absolute bare minimum decaf off taste. You might not taste it at all. It also results in a tea pot that's a real pain to clean out. But hey. I tried brewing in a basket and in a bag and the results were pretty poor, a faint but noticeable decaf off taste. I have no idea why this works, but I repeated the experiment a number of times to my satisfaction. The English method also gave markedly better results with some other loose decaf I have. Most decaf black tea on the market is undrinkable. Maybe Earl Grey or other flavored tea is okay in decaf, but straight black: really bad. You might as well drink dishwater. There are some excellent decaf coffees, but no one has cracked the tea code on decaffeination yet. That said, a decent decaf tea can make pretty good iced tea.I had to eliminate caffeine from my diet for health reasons. Problem: I am used to extremely high quality whole leaf tea, velvety rich black tea such as fine Keemun, Indian Assam, Yunnan, and some other great black teas from China. There simply aren't any decaf teas that remotely approach the flavor of a very high quality expensive Keemun. I usually buy my tea from Upton; out of their entire catalog they have ONE decaf Assam that is not bad. But expensive at about 2x what this Davidson costs, and it is broken leaf, not whole leaf. (Assam is one of the types of tea typically used in English Breakfast, the others being usually lesser quality filler teas from Ceylon or Kenya. A good Assam is malty and full bodied. Ceylon and Kenya teas, well, I've tried even some pricey single estate teas from those regions and they weren't very good.)Now, this Davidson is pretty good, perhaps just a step behind the Upton Assam. The Davidson is also full leaf rather than broken, which is good if you like it strong because you can steep the tea longer without it becoming astringent. Two problems: you need to use about 2x as much tea to get it strong enough compared to caf. tea. Not helping is the fact that there are a lot of stems in this tea, which there should be only leaves. Next is flavor. There is a certain artificial off aftertaste in most decaf teas, and this has it. It is not pleasant, to me it tastes similar to that of certain artificial sweeteners. It's much less pronounced than say Lipton or Tetley Decaf in bags (shudder), but it is still there. As I say this makes a quite nice iced tea, because at low temperatures you don't taste the decaf weird taste signature very much at all. I usually put a bit of lemon or orange juice in mine with sugar, and that masks the decaf even more. I love ice tea and had to stop drinking it quite a while ago. So it's actually very nice to be able to drink as much ice tea as I want, even late in the afternoon or evening, without it goosing you. When I brew tea for decaf I don't bother with the English method, just use the basket as it's easier to clean up.Personally I don't care that much about the 'organic' label. I wonder if they could get better flavor by using the CO2 decaffeinating process rather than the water process . . .

Good fresh decaff black tea
It's hard to find good fresh decaff black tea - this is excellent value and good flavour. I use rice paper disposable tea bags to prevent mess.

This is weak and does not taste good at all.
We used to buy decaf tea in bags, but decided to try loose. Will not be buying this again, since even when using lots of tea leaves, it is still weak and has an unpleasant flavor. We also purchased the Davidson't genmaicha loose tea, and are enjoying that one. It is only the decaf english breakfast tea that is bad.
