What If..... and frankly I don't care!
I struggled to get involved with the storyline, or care about the characters. The only things it made me question were the reasons I paid for it, and why I made the effort to finish it. I won't be bothering with any sequel, nor will I bother to try to read it again. The premise of the book is "What If" the life of Jesus, his followers and their subsequent deaths were not as we've been led to believe. "What If" reincarnation is a reality for some but not others. "What If" : “The evil that men do lives after them; The good is oft interred with their bones.”This concept of an alternative version has been proposed by a number of other authors, generally in less convoluted, better managed narratives. There are far too many themes attempted in this book, none of which is properly or logically explored nor sensibly concluded. I have no affiliation to any religion or denomination, but I found the levels of violence and antipathy towards the Roman Catholic Church worrying. If you fancy a challenge, then give a go but don't expect a satisfactory outcome.

Thought provoking new look at established belief systems
The book begins around 2000 years ago in the holy land and visits many of the world's great cultural and religious centres. Nazareth, The Vatican, Egypt. It jumps around quite a bit at the beginning from the time of Christ to the modern day and takes some getting used to. I wasn't familiar with the stories of the old testament, so learned quite a lot along the way. It's similar in some ways to a Dan Brown thriller. There is plenty of action, bloodshed and intrigue. It questions the role of religion and the craving of powerful individuals to exercise their power over the ordinary man. This is my first introduction to Francis Chapman and it was an interesting read.

Is it a thriller?
I was excited about the book before reading it, and I think it has potential as a story, but I'm not sure the it necessarily delivered as a book. At times, I found the dual timelines slightly confusing, and the ending was predictable. I think the book could be great if it was longer, and more time was spent explaining things in the story. Overall, it was an ok story, but for me, it was not particularly thrilling, or fulfilling.

Engrossing Read
I don’t normally write reviews, but I enjoyed reading this book so much I thought I would. From the first few pages I was hooked, I’m a fan of these type of books, ancient mysteries that span different periods, but I find many follow a similar formula, the old ancient secret that must be protected etc. But this offered something new and takes the reader in a new unexpected direction, I found myself totally engaged in the story and characters. This is an extremely well written book, highly recommended, I believe it is the first in a trilogy, so can’t wait for the next chapter.

Brilliant!
This is a very clever, inventive and original book. Set in two time zones, it reimagines the narrative of the last days of Jesus of Nazareth, combined with a modern day thriller of deception, lies and intrigue. There is no denying that there are scenes of violence but there is also humour sprinkled throughout the interplay between god-made-man Yeshua, and his friends and adversaries. Well-known figures from the Bible story are interweaved with their reincarnations alongside newly created characters, as they fight for their very souls! I really enjoyed the concept, the writing and the story. An extraordinary must-read for lovers of smart thrillers.

Controversial and Excellent!
A highly controversial and (despite or because of this?) highly enjoyable read. As someone who finds starting and staying with novels hard, it is good to find a writer who knows how to grab the reader, draw them in and keep them enmeshed in the plot and invested in the characters through to the end. I also found myself wanting to explore many new ideas introduced here, which is definitely in my experience the sign of a good book. I eagerly await Mr Chapman's next book, and highly recommend this to lovers of intrigue and adventure.

Gratuitous violence
I am sorry but I didn't like this book. It was mindlessly violent and half way through I just couldn't wait to finish it and be done. It is a unique story, but very disquieting. I thought I was going to read something soothing, a history but it has left me much more wary of ever reading book like this again. I've read widely on the life of Jesus; I'm not religious at all, but this book sickened me with its gratuitous violence. I'm sorry to be so negative, but there it is, an honest review.
