Ester J. De JongFoundations for Multilingualism in Education: From Principles to Practice

More Principles than Practice, but a decent Primer
I have to say that this book began promisingly. In its beginning, it introduced discourses about the topic of Multilingualism, interesting statistics about the cultural layout of the U.S., and reasons for why multilingualism is important. The first two chapters did a great job of presenting the 'Principles'.As it progressed, however, the book lacked a lot of the 'Practice' portion of its title. I was expecting authentic experiences of Prof. DeJong that could help give prospective teachers serious insight on how to handle Multilingualism in our classrooms. Technical know-how was not explored, though the title suggests that it might. In conclusion, do not read this book in the hopes of attaining serious technical knowledge. Instead, treat it as a primer on the topic of Multilingualism in the United States.

Great book
I really enjoy reading De Jongs book. I have never had a book that analyzes bilingual education; it provides a lot of new information with good studies and statistics behind it. It is well written and I highly recommend it for a future teacher. Good buy!

Good but not great.
This book is not what I expected. I had to get it for a class I was taking, and I did not see much benefit in it's use.
