Q: Can you open the top for picture's?

Mine has a circular flap at the top, so you can just balance your phone on top of the box to take overhead pictures. It's one of my fave features.

Q: How do you turn off either the front or back light strip? I don't see any switches anywhere.

In my version there are no switches, but I plug in the 2 strips separately with the 'Y' shaped plug, so just don't plug in the strip you don't want to light up.
