It prevents your car's key fob from transmitting. If you have the type of key fob that doesn't have to be inserted into the ignition to turn on the car (the type where you can keep it in your pocket or the cupholder or, for ladies, your pocketbook) and then just hit a "start" button, this device prevents someone from using a wireless repeater to clone your key fob and then unlock and start your car.

Q: What are the inside dimensions of pouch only, please?

The inside has two pockets. The metallic-lined one (which is the reason for buying this product) is about 4 inches wide by 3 inches high. The unlined one is about 4 inches wide by 2.25 inches high. You have to put the key fob in the metallic-lined pocket to get the benefit of this sort of product because it’s the metallic lining that blocks the signal.

Q: To use your key do you have to take it out first?

It is for your key fob so no one can drive with your car or truck. Once in bag, someone wanting the car, can't get thru your key fob
