Meh
It was an okay read, but I really don't think this book is anything particularly special or new. I skipped a few sections. The author does have a great descriptive way of writing, clearly very talented, but I don't think the actual storyline was particularly exciting. Also I work with mental health patients and I don't understand how the main character was diagnosed with BPD? She was surely too young to be given that diagnosis? I follow the author on instagram and know she has BPD herself, so it just felt like the author was trying too hard to make the book mirror her own illnesses and struggles. Also just want to stress how unnecessarily triggering this book is, especially with the target audience being YA's. I wouldn't like to imagine a vulnerable YA copying the self harm and explicit suicide attempts detailed in this book.

A hand outstretched, reaching out to those in the dark... couldn't put it down!
Ceylan's writing is a gift to us all, but mostly so to those who have been pushed to hiding in the shadows; who feel unseen, misunderstood and underrepresented... her writing is like a hand outstretched to those people, pulling them into the light. My only regret is that I finished it so quickly, but I couldn't put it down... this, coming from someone who has struggled to read a book for years since a psychotic break. Cant wait to read more of Ceylan's work and hope some day to have a little collection! Worth the money and more.

Triggering but a good insight into mental illness for those who haven’t dealt with it.
A mixture of Wintergirls and Girl, Interrupted, alongside personal experience with BPD makes this book an average read. The most important part to stress is the self harm scene is INCREDIBLY triggering to vulnerable readers. I also want to point out this book does highlight multiple disordered behaviours and I urge vulnerable readers to think deeply before reading as it is both triggering and includes glamourised behaviours that might provide some people with ideas on how to harm themselves, and explains how to get dangerous objects into hospitals.

Ten!
Incredibly well written, intelligent, honest, raw, and deeply involving view into the life and thoughts of someone who suffers from a serious mental illness. It runs the gamut from humour to despair, and from the understandable to the unexplainable. Should be required reading for anyone working with disturbed adolescents, for their families and friends, and for anyone else who may just want to experience the simple humanity of being troubled like this. Ceylan Scott is a gifted writer, who keeps the reader riveted even to a disturbing story. I hope she will write more!

Incredible book, a MUST read!
I haven't read a book in years due to lack of concentration thanks to my mental illness's but I decided I wanted to start reading again and found this book, thought it related to me so I ordered it. I read and finished it the same day it arrived at my house. Incredible book! Loved it so much, it's probably my new favourite book!
