Laurel & Hardy: The Definitive Restorations (6 disc) [DVD] [NTSC]

Whilst not perfect, these restorations are incredible compared to any previous DVD releases. The level of detail evident truly is a revelation.There is still visible print damage in the form of speckles and occasional lines, but in no way do these detract from the enjoyment.The only minor niggle is the bare bones packaging, especially at forty pounds a pop. No booklet, no slipcase, nothing just the discs and a case.Like I say a minor niggle, and I'm still glad I bought this package. I do wish 'A Chump At Oxford' were included though!

Two features and 17 shorts, including the legendary pie-fight silent film "The Battle of the Century," making its video debut and nearly complete for the first time in over 90 years’. What I was surprised about was that despite the claim of full restoration there are numerous instances of thin white vertical scratch lines, white specs, the odd hair in the gate and some of the static opening titles you could see were unsteady. With modern software I would have thought these would have been quite easy to remove. Of the two features ‘Way Out West’ was the best and looked extremely sharp and sounded pretty good. This is rather an expensive package for what it is.

Absolutely brilliant. Until you listen and watch the restorations on your 4k UHD television with your region-free blu-ray player, and your Yamaha 109 soundbar at correct settings, you don't know what you're missing! Not only does the picture clarity bring the shorts to life, but the sound is so fizzed up, the gags become brand new! Already classics, to see them in this high quality is a gift. A dream come true for Stan and Ollie fans.Have commented to friends, "There's a fly on set! Just seen a fly! These 4k restorations are amazing!" And, "Even the MGM lion is scary!"Terrific. Every fan should own a copy. Can't wait for the next volume....

If you’re looking at this product you almost certainly don’t need telling how good the boys are, how they’re the funniest people ever to walk the planet etc. What you do need to know is how good the quality of the blu ray reproduction is and words cannot do it true justice. It is faultless, some of these films are nearly a hundred years old and look like they’ve been made last year. The quality of the picture, the true sound, the way they’ve been put together - unbelievable.Buy it!!!

As an avid fan of the ‘Boys’ films I couldn’t wait to get a copy of this, finally I hoped, a release that would give their work the restoration that it deserves. My gold standard at the moment would be the restored, original ‘Twilight Zone’ episodes which are exceptional.Granted I have only watched ‘Helpmates’ at the moment, but was amazed to see some really big artefacts appear in the form of long film scratch lines across Stan’s face in close up, surely these could have been spotted and removed? At times the b/w tone of the film shimmered as well. Whilst by far the best restoration of their work so far, unfortunately I don’t think, if ‘Helpmates’ is anything to go by, that they are going to be perfect.That said, (although not a cheap box set) I am glad to have this addition of the world’s greatest comedy team to my collection. By the way, I can confirm that these discs will play on UK Blu-ray players.

1st things 1st 4get the other reviews I imported these from USA took 20 odd day and boy was they worth the wait ive only watch way out west and the picture is fantastic 2 say it was done in 1930s give or take the remaster is perfect if they done more id buy them all they really r top quality there shoot in 35mm so it's where u get 2 black bars going down side but come on its the greatest double act of the 1930 on wards u buy these u will love l&h 4 ever

These classic works of comic art have been restored to something I imagine may be very close to how they initially appeared in terms of both picture and audio quality.This deepens my appreciation for Stan and Ollie ever more. :-)

This is a fabulous blu ray that lets you see these timeless comedy classics in the best quality you can.The restoration is fabulous and it’s well worth your money buying the films again as they will be so much better than any other versions you have seen before on DVD.The crispness of the 4k scans reveals details that I have never seen before and you can admire how wonderful the films actually looked.The new versions are a great way to introduce younger people to their work as well, as they look so perfect.The extras are incredibly comprehensive, including interviews with people who actually worked on the films.I only hope we get a second volume very soon.Highly recommended.
