Q: Does the fan/light have on/off switches? are the usb/fan/light independent of each other? a.k.a. does use of one part affect use of another?

Hello Friend, The fan has no on/off swith. The light has on/off switch. USb/fan/light are working independently, will not affect each other. When you plug desk in, the fan will works automatically and at the same time you can turn on the light and use USB prots for charging. When you use 3 AAA baterries, the light will works but fan and USB port doesn't work. So if you want to use the light only for reading, you could install 3 AAA baterries. If you want to use all the three functions, pls plug desk in with the USB Cord came with package.

Q: What size laptop does it hold max?

It holds my diagonal measured 17" screen lap top that is about 18" wide plus a old style paper tape calculator

Q: What is the amount of space between the two legs ( how many inches)?

From end to end, it's 20.5 inches. The legs move out a bit more once extended, and they also fold in and can be set at half or full length. I love this table tray, it's my second one. The first lasted almost two years so they are durable.
