I would compare it to a quarter only lighter in weight. I love the one I bought. Comes on a cord so you might want to get a chain to wear it.

Q: what is the diameter of the clasp of holding the pendant?

The tiny mount which is molded into the pendent just above Micheal, has a solid stainless ring which is 3.80 mm I.D. and it's a (no weld ring) infinity. The chain goes through a stainless ring. The Lobster claw on the chain is 10.62mm long x 3.8mm wide. The lobster claw fit's into a flat tiny tear drop clasp aprx; 2.39mm opening. you might be able to fit a Bic-ball point pen tip through the hole on the tear drop. Unless you're very good with your fingers and doing things behind your neck out of sight...this will take great deal of patients and coordination I promise. --But it's a stainless chain so it would easy to change the chain and lobster claw out for something longer and bigger as I did.

Q: Can this be engraved on the back?

It is sterling silver...I don't see why you couldn't... The back is plain, I would call the shop you plan to take it to that will be doing the work and ask them just to be safe. This is a very beautiful piece of fine jewelry... I hope you get this regardless, it will bring you so much joy. Thank you Don
