Dangermouse pulls the absolute best out of the current Chili Peppers lineup!
I've been a fan since Mother's Milk and I think each album has been good in its own way. I had some reservations after I'm With You. While listening to the Getaway I had the same level of excitement that I had in listening to Stadium Arcadium. My excitement was for different reasons though. The Getaway is a different RHCP album but in a good way. Some people embrace change and others loathe it. I don't mind change as long as it is well done. The Getaway is a well written and extremely well produced album. Danger Mouse brings out each of the band member's best. Anthony Kiedis's lyrics and vocals sound very natural and are NOT forced at all. Josh Klinghoffer settles in beautifully as a Chili Pepper. He adds a lot more texture and diversity to his playing that is in line with John Frusciante but also sounds personal to Josh. Flea is more subtle but also more meaningful in his playing. Chad Smith further breaks out of some of his usual patterns and accentuates the songs much like like he did on Stadium Arcadium. They layers and complexity are reminiscent of Trent Reznor but in the Chili Pepper's style instead of NIN. If Josh's progress from I'm With You to The Getaway is anywhere what Danger Mouse could accomplish with another shot at an RHCP record then I hope this record is successful enough to warrant it.**Also I'd love to hear the other album that RHCP wrote before Danger Mouse had them start fresh.

Awesome new sounds with familiar RHCP style
The best thing about RHCP has been their ability to surprise with the familiar. I think this album stays true to that. It is unlike their prior albums and in some ways similar. It is much calmer and has less funk and more of a modern feel. Yet the combination of sounds somehow still has a unique twist to it making it out of the norm, and still a bit funky. I love being surprised with their stuff. And this album doesn't disappoint at all. I didn't care much for their last album and this is the first one in some time I truly love like some of their older work. Josh on guitar finally has found his groove with the sound and it's not John, it's something else also awesome. I think people who have a set idea that RHCP is one particular sound, based on some of their older songs, might not adjust right away to this album because it is very different. But I think it's a new sound that feels like home. I felt like the last album there was adjusting still. I have seen their concerts since they came back to the stage after that break and their sound is now sounding really settled and Josh seems to have a groove and a more evolved sound. RHCP <3

It's pretty good.
Well, what to say. I spent a long time with this CD trying to get into all its nooks and crannies. At first I didn't like it thinking, "So this is what Chili Peppers has come to." What happened to the Chili's of old with that classic sound? What happened is Anthony has learned to sing and sing quite well. The lessons have paid off because he sounds like a legit singer now. Having heard his voice in its current maturity, it's painful to listen to him "try" to sing older songs like Under the Bridge. That being said, this CD is full of Anthony singing. While there is plenty of diversity in the songs, many of them follow the same tempo pattern (or dare I say song formula) of either singing soft then doing a hard break-down and repeat, or singing hard and doing a soft break-down and repeat. This predictability was a bit of a let-down....but old Chili Peppers this is not...that old Chili sound is long gone and isn't coming back. If you're not willing to adjust your expectations, you may have a hard time with this CD. I have some friends that would call this CD--and the current Chili sound--garbage. I don't remember any tracks getting airplay when it was new and there isn't a single big hit anywhere to be found. But this is the story of most bands that have been around a long time. They mature, musically, and their sound changes. As much as we like "the old stuff", as musicians, they've matured beyond that.So if you can get into it, this CD is worth listening to, but it might take some time if you're expecting that classic, Chili hard-core sound.

Different, but still the RHCP
On the in total listen through I found that the first three songs on the album ( The Getaway, Dark Necessities, and We Turn Red) sounded amazing, and the fifth song on the album Goodbye Angels sounded as if it could be the next radio hit for them. Outside of that the rest of the songs didn't really do anything for me.... on the first listen through. By the second listen through I could honestly say that I loved each song on the album outside of one (detroit was a miss for me). This is certainly different from your typical RHCP aalbum as it has a much more somber, mellow feel throughout, with the funk still present but more in the backseat as opposed to riding shotgun. The more you listen to this album the more Josh really shines through, with most of the songs having standout guitar moments whether it be a solo or a sweet hook. Buy this album and if you have the time try to listen to it from beginning to end to really get the full experience. I've listened to this album countless times begginning to end and my favorite songs are constantly changing each time, which is a testament to how catchy and great this album really is.

Capolavoro.
