This is THEEEE book on Top Gun history, lore, development, tends, etc., etc. You can't go wrong. I give it 5 Stars however a number of folks (and me as well) have issues with the sturdiness of the book itself. its almost too thick for the binding and paper inner liners - cracks, tears, etc. Still, a wonderful book and great price for the amount of detail.....and pages!!!!!

I was surprised how thick this book is. I haven't read it to the end yet, about one third through. It's a really comprehensive story of what finally led to Top Gun, first covering the air wars the US was involved until the Vietnam War, with lessons learned and subsequently forgotten. It is really interesting to read, the author has an excellent style of telling the story.

The book is well done and well researched. It places in context, all the development of fighter combat tactics post Vietnam War within the US Navy. "Feather Duster", HAVE DRILL, HAVE DONUT, Cope India 2004 and many others are covered and well detailed. Plenty of realizations that my vernacular is way out of date, lolz.

The story became very administrative after a few decades. There was no mention of the first three civilians to attend by name only just a number total. I did get an important fact as the Naval Air and Strike Warfare Center was created with Top Gun commander being elevated in rank and then fading out as the "Tom Cat" came and went along with air to ground becoming Strike Fighter with F-18.

Holy Smokes! 600 plus pages filled with everything not still classified about TOPGUN from its day one to its current status. Facts , figures, stories, histories, photos. Its all in this book. Nine years in the making and will not be surpassed! Never! On a one to ten a eleven!

This book provides a complete history of the Top Gun program. The one-stop book for everything related to this important air combat training program.

I’ve not yet started reading it, but it’s as thick as a oversized dictionary and I’m thinking that the binding won’t hold up, once I start reading it.2 solutions: either publish it as a 2 volume set, or publish an abridged version.

Une véritable bible pour tous les amateurs du combat aérien, plus particulièrement du "dogfight". Texte dense, mais très lisible. Un cahier central sur papier glacé illustre ce pavé de belles photos, malheureusement trop petites.Bref, un livre-encyclopédie indispensable.NOTA : malgré son poids et son épaisseur, livre traité par les agents d'Amazon comme un vulgaire livre de poche, c'est-à-dire reçu sans aucune protection ou carton adapté et par conséquent, endommagé dans les angles (jaquette et couverture qui a perdu sa finition bleue au profit du blanc du papier cartonné...). Typique d'Amazon, rédhibitoire. Je conserve, car un échange pourrait être pire !

Just started reading this book after having it for a little while. Great text, gives extensive details of the development of air combat manouvering. Great catch ups of the issues identified during Vietnam, and the changes made to compensate this. No where near finishing, but the journey is exceptional. Only downside, as already pointed out, is the shere size of the thing, its massive..

THE book on anything Top Gun! So much research has gone into this - outstanding!
