Better than expected
We absolutely love these! They really are self heating and they taste relatively good. It was great to have today on the boat as it was s hot meal on a cold day and we had no food except for these. They really are so good and perfectly heated the food that I have already purchased more! I love these!

It actually tastes good for what it is.
I bought these to stock up and keep back just in case. Keep in mind, this is not fine dining. It's not a restaurant or even fast food. It's a meal designed for survival in my opinion. Sure you could take it to work for lunch or something but for the price of these, there's cheaper options for that. In a survival situation, I'm confident that everyone would not mind eating it at all if it was the only meal they had.I think they taste great compared to the other brands and actual MREs I've tried. It's just a bit small to be considered 2 servings. For most people, after eating 1, I believe you'll still be hungry.

Nice for A Treat
I bought this as a treat for myself when I did a hike from rim to rim of the Grand Canyon. It was a nice treat to be able to have a warm cookie as a treat during my 20+ mile hike. The cookie tastes good and the heater worked fast. The heater also only uses a little water and it doesn't have to be clean because it won't touch the cookie. It's also great because you don't have to heat the cookie to enjoy it; you can open the package and just start eating. The one issue is the price for the value. I think this item is overpriced, but is great for a special occasion.

Just OK
These were just OK. It was pretty nice to not have to get out the stove to boil water to make these because I have an old school stove and not a fancy jetboil. They all came with salt and pepper and plastic ware which was a little wasteful since I have my own camping utensils but I was happy it came with salt because they all definitely needed it. The meals got warm enough to eat but they were definitely not hot. One thing that’s my fault and I should have paid attention to is that these don’t have nearly enough calories for a full meal for me (6’2 195 lbs). I was still hungry after each meal and one night I even ate two of them. 200-250 calories for me is a snack not a meal. Luckily I was just camping and not hiking because if I’d been hiking all day I’d really need something with at LEAST 600 calories. My summary is that these are a kind of a gimmick that’s a little bit more convenient, they taste just OK and the dollar per calorie value is not very good. I probably won’t be buying these again.

Fantastic quality, but could be bigger
I initially thought these were simply freeze dried meals, but realizing they are effectively MREs. These are self contained retort pouches with a flameless ration heater (FRH). Heating the meal is ridiculously easy with just a few ounce of water. Once warmed up, carefully remove the pouch (you can use the latent heat from the heater to keep you warm) and dig in. Because the pouches have a fully pre-cooked entree, there's no need adjusting moisture or being concerned about burned parts. The utensil bad comes with extra salt and pepper for taste, but I found these to be quite good on their own. Flavor is exceptional, however portion size may leave you wanting as it only covers a few hundred calories. Well seasoned, very hearty, even consistency. Best to supplement with other food items.

you may need two
So I thought I would give these a try, I had the Chicken and Rice and the turkey Chili. Both had great flavor, and the package heated up fast and stayed hot for a long time. I always add some spice to my backpacking meals, yet with this one there was no real need. Light weight and stores in my pack well. Only real issue was the portion size was a bit small. I had just hiked the Grotto in Zion National Park, sat down for the Chili and wished I had brought two. Not the most filling, lets up they increase the portion size and this will be perfect for a two or even five day trip.

You can make these a bit lighter, and cook a bit more consistently with a couple tweaks
Bought some of these to do a hiking trip where I didn't want to carry a stove (did carry a USB power pack for my phone which also allowed me to bring a little immersion heater for hot water for coffee). Since these weren't going to sit on the shelf, I took a suggestion I found elsewhere and tore off the top tab of all of these, removed the gimmicky plastic spoon and napkin, and placed the now smaller and lighter packages (still had the outer pocket, heating element, and food packet) into a large Ziploc bag. A bit less hassle and a bit less weight and a fair bit less waste to carry around after. For the food, kneading the food packet a bit before placing it in with the heating element helps, as well as removing it after four minutes to knead it again and then let it cook another 2-3 minutes. Yes the packaging says 3-5 minutes, but if you really want it fairly hot throughout, a little more time helps.Because the food never comes in contact with the water you can use water you wouldn't drink in a pinch - letting you extend your potable water longer. I've noticed folks have said adding a little salt to the water will make the heating element get a little hotter as well. What water sources might be available in an emergency that have some salt I will leave as an exercise for the reader.Basically, this is as good or better in terms of taste as the other major hiking food brands - generally a bit better as the food is stabilized rather than freeze-dried. And the convenience really can't be beat. Recommended!

It actually tastes really good!!
I was apprehensive after heating one up (Southwest Style Chicken and Rice). HINT: I did let it "cook" / sit for 9 minutes to ensure the heat disbursed throughout the meal. My 13 year old boy and I tried it here at home as an experiment, so to speak. We were both really pleased with the flavor and the quality of the chicken pieces. I'd eat them as a lunch at work sans the $10.00 plus price. These are going on the kayak in the dry bag and in my home here if Florida for emergency supplies!! Big guys might want two. But in a pinch, one will hold you.
