Relevant for both Pre-Registration and Qualified Nurses
This book is designed for pre-registration nurses, but would be just as suitable for qualified nurses as well. I've been qualified for many years, and have been working in primary care for about 10 years, and I found it very useful. It covers the following chapters:Legistration and StandardsPatient Safety and Error ReductionPrinciples of PharmacologyPharmaceutics and Routes of Drug AdministrationGroups at Special Risk of Adverse EffectsInformation and Evidence: Sources and Evaluationmedicines Management: Systems and ProceduresMedicine Management: Drug CalculationsThe Nurses Role in Promoting ConcordanceKeeping Up to DateAs you can see, it covers every aspect of 'Medicines Management' - it provides a broad detailed base for pre-reg nurses facing the prospect of drug rounds, as well as nurses looking to undertake prescribing. It's suitable for both primary and secondary care, with it's differing responsibilities. The layout is good, with some illustrations, boxes of information etc, which all break up the text, and web links are provided when necessary. As expected, each chapter has a summary and references and some have a small quiz to test knowledge. At just over 150 pages, it's an acceptable length which doesn't feel daunting.Recommended for all nurses, to learn or update.

Essential drug management reference
A well set out and informative guide to medicines management specifying pre-registration nurses but has a much broader use also. I wont replicate what has already been written regarding the chapters available but just to mention that within the chapters there are useful sub-sections containing either extra information to reinforce an important point or issue, Exercises and Activities (quizzes also) Case Studies, Reflection Points (very nice these) Conclusions and Further reading. Not so many diagrams in this one, mainly text and asthetically I'd say the presentation could be improved a bit by the use of colours as opposed to standard black and white text and shaded areas but that aside all the meaty content is impressively presented in a quite slim guide. The Legislation and Standards chapter at the start is excellent and sets the tone for the rest of the book.
