First of all, I’m thrilled to have this amazing book in my library. Bonny Snowden’s work in colored pencil is world-renowned and to finally have a book written by her in my hands is an absolute treat. The book is very well thought out and meticulous in its instruction. The explanation of materials needed for colored pencil art is detailed in description and use - an invaluable resource to have at your fingertips. There is a lovely variety of subjects to draw and, notably, on a variety of surfaces — which is something rarely found in other instruction books on colored pencils.I’m starting with the first project of the kitten reaching for the ornament and, hopefully, will finish it for this year’s holiday cards and I will update my review with a photo when I finish. And then onto that amazing, colorful peacock on drafting film! Feathers! So many new techniques to explore make colored pencil exciting.I take issue with some of the previous reviews that a few of the photos in the book are dark. I believe that some of the reviewers are use to seeing Bonny’s art from a computer screen and, of course, the printed page will never look the same as an image that is back-lit on a computer screen. Colored pencil works are hard to photograph and, as a graphic designer, I’m aware that printing rarely reveals the true nature of any art. Don’t let that stop you from purchasing this gem and enjoying the step by step tutorials.Bonny Snowden has spent years developing her techniques and methods and is well-known for sharing her talents generously through her online Academy and various social media sites. To have this book is like icing on the cake - absolutely delicious!

A great source of inspiration to my new use of colored pencils.

I am a colored pencil artist and LOVE this book..the steps and step photos are so helpful in seeing how this artist/author achieves such realism in creating animals in colored pencil! I know the artist and her work is excellent...each step is clearly defined and explained! Have both in print and digital versions! GREAT reference book to do this kind of art! only sad part...the PUBLISHER has no idea how to use great photos of the artists work in a book and they have dulled the visibility of a few of the darker background pieces by not including the brightness and color correctly..it is definitely NOT the artists fault who obviously had no say in proofing the final product! but nonetheless less it is an excellent book in realism creation of colored pencils!

The author did a great job of explaining tools and techniques. I especially like the section that explained the difference between oil based and wax based pencils.

Was so happy the day this arrived! I wish I had this when I started working with colored pencil. I like the Tools and Material section, as it covers all aspects of this subject. Some of the tools she suggests make a difference in making a good piece of work, great. There are great notes on almost every page. I especially like the tutorials on the kitten and the zebras. They are easy to follow along. One of the things I value most about this artist is that she works on a variety of surfaces and has advice for the best materials for each surface. The publisher has done this absolutely wonderful artist a disservice in the way they did not have good quality control over a few photos on just a few pages. But that in no way detracts from the instructions or the skill level you can grow with this book.

I agree with the review which notes how dark the photos are. I think the actual tutorials would be most helpful if done on a light background, as the strokes would be easier to see as one follows along. The non-tutorial photos in the beginning are easy to see details, however the horse and two labradors are too dark to see clearly. I would have liked more tutorials on lighter paper, rather than 2 long tutorials on drafting film and the dark labradors and horse. Her work is beautiful, however, I am a bit disappointed as I’ve been waiting quite awhile for it to arrive since ordering.

I have waited since the beginning of the year for this book and I'm not disappointed with it. The book contains 5-projects that really break down Bonny Snowdon's processes. It is a wonderful addition to my art book collection. The projects are detailed with step-by-step instructions along the way with vivid pictures the demonstrate the layering process. It discusses drafting film and pastelmat techniques that will be essentials to have in your tool box. I have become a better artist because of Bonny's instructions and guidance. This book adds to the wealth of knowledge that has been building.

Love Bonny’s teaching style. She provides a thorough yet simple foundation, and walks through some excellent tutorials to build confidence.

I had my eye on this book for a while but delayed buying it due to previous comments complaining about the print quality. All I can say is ignore those comments. I don't know if this is a reprint but this book is beautiful and really high quality. I'm so glad I bought it. Bonny is very generous in sharing her incredible artwork and skills. The information and instructions are simple, clear and easy to follow. There are so many photos for each project they really take you step by step. The subjects for the projects are varied with lots of different textures and colours. This is learning with lots of exploration and fun!

Very well explained and informative. Bonny Snowdon is full of knowledge and keen to pass it on. It shows n this book.
