I went from the eco-orange kind of string to this, and while I'm not altogether happy that I'm losing that aspect, the difference in performance is night and day.I can't remember the last time I was aware of not running my stihl trimmer full blast just to get it to cut. This stuff cuts with almost any movement. It feels more like a sculpting dremel tool.. Things just kind of melt out of it's way.Down side is that a tap will release enough line to need trimming on the base, and that metal core seems to create a little vibration until it wears back away from the line cutter. It's not a huge deal, more of a noted difference, and perhaps it also means I need a new line cutter.Long story short, this is sharp edged and metal cored. I don't have a GREAT deal of experience with other lines, but this is considerably better than my last and I'm glad I went for the 5 pound spool.Mine came with a stretchy mesh over the spool and this serves well to keep the line in place as you pull it out sideways with some holes set into the spool to hold the loose end in place, so for those of us who don't want a designated line spooler contraption, this works well right out of the container.Very good.

I really like Gatorline, but haven't been able to find the square profile in the stores in my area. The aramid fiber in the center of the line makes it considerably more durable than other line. I ran upon this square line on Amazon and if you cut the line with a low angle it can be used in a spool designed for 0.080" line. It'll be quite a while before I have to reorder.

The string really cuts well and lasts a good while. The spool on my last roll broke and now I am trying to keep 1,000 ft. of line from going everywhere. The end of the spool just broke off.

The durability of the line is what I like.

I bought a spool of this 5 years ago. Still haven't used half of it even though I have trimmed hundreds of yards. This stuff is the bomb! Used standard string, heavy duty string, the orange string, and have found nothing that compares to this. I use it on my Husqvarna to cut the 3/8 to 1/2" diameter stems of Kudzu vines. You won't be disappointed with your purchase.
