Lonely Planet Paris City Map

I suppose that the hard pocket cover serves a purpose when not using the map to neatly put it away on a shelf. However, I was only after the metro map with a street plan which is to be found in the hard pocket cover envelop that would stay in the hotel while I normally would put the map in my back pocket when going about Paris. Of course afterwards it would be too crumbled and wrinkled to put back in its hard pocket cover.What I'm getting at is that even though the hard pocket cover is well presented with a good intended purpose it's not really required and a less expensive map without it would have been my preference.However, c'est la vie and there is nothing wrong with the combination of jacket cover and map; it's just a case of convenience when touring about Paris not to have to take out the map from it's protective cover every time that you want to consult the map. Probably from where the expression of "why be simple, when you can be complicated" originated?

This map resided in my coat pocket for 2 weeks. The thing I loved about it was the metro map was large enough to read easily unlike most where we can hardly see the names of the stops. It also was pretty indestructible as it was rainy and I kept pulling it in and out of my pocket. When I needed to see the street map, it was also very easy to read. Quite honestly with GPS on your phone these days, a map is not as useful to find the details, but is great for deterring where you are in relation to where you want to go and finding the name of the nearest metro stop.A previous reviewer said the map had errors and cited Musee L'Orangie as being placed by the map in the Luxembourg Gardens instead of the Tuileries. Actually the reviewer is wrong, there is a very large building in the Luxembourg Gardens called "Orangy"- I actually walked by it, and the Musee L'Orangie is properly located on the map with it's full name. The map is absolutely accurate, the tourist is not.
