Q: Looking for a main lug 60amp box to power my shed. Using 20 amp outlets and feeding the panel with 8/3 wire. Would this panel be appropriate?

I used mine in a out shed for 6 led “fluorescent”lights and 10 electrical outlets with a 60 amp feed using 6/3 individual strand through conduit and it worked just fine. I even have room in the box to hook up a 220 if I ever get that welder I want.

Yes, you can put 2- double breakers in this box

Q: Will this work as a 40 amp breaker?

This is a sub panel and you can install a 40 amp breaker.
