Build a Classroom Community That Cares!!!
I thought this was a wonderful book that would be a great read for the first week of school. It is a wonderful resource that encourages children to make good choices and be aware of others feelings. It promotes kind behavior as acceptable and unkind behavior as something that should not be accepted or rewarded by others - power in numbers. There are many books written that address bullies, but this book is different in that it also covers bystanders. It makes the reader understand that it's not alright to sit back and watch a bully. The concept of bystanders is often a difficult one for young children to grasp, but this book explains it nicely for elementary listeners or readers. In The Juice Box Bully, the children of Mr. Peltzers class meet Pete, the new kid in school. Pete quickly acts the part of the bully. The class does not stand by and just let Pete bully. Instead the class has made a pact to stand together and stop bullying. Their willingness and courage to stand up for not only the kids being bullied but for the bully himself, makes their school what it should be, a safe place for all to learn and grow.Teachers, check out "The Promise" at the end of the book. 8 Powerful statement you will want to share with your classroom. "The Promise" helps children be empowered to take a pledge to stand up to bad behavior. What a wonderful tool for your classroom. Read the book and discuss "The Promise" on the last page. Post "The Promise" in your classroom. Work together as a class the first week to write a "Promise" for your classroom as well. Become a classroom community that CARES!

A different slant on bullying
"The Juice Box Bully" adds a new dimension to my weekly lessons for 2nd and 3rd graders. Most character education programs I have observed/read about focus on establishing high expectations for student behavior and appropriate interventions by the teacher. Both of these are absolutely essential components, but "The Juice Box Bully" takes it one (very important) step further by illustrating that kids can acquire skills to solve their OWN problems. There is a surprising twist to the story when one of the kids reminds the others that treating people fairly applies to the bully as well (what???), while he makes it clear to the bully that he also must adhere to the class promise. Too many times, I've seen just the opposite, that children who bully others are demonized by the other kids, something that actually feeds more negative behavior. This simple story illustrates to kids a fundamental truth, that stooping to the level of the wrong doer does not solve the problem.

awesome book!
This is a really good book! I love how this works to teach kids that they can stand up and say I like you, but I will not tolerate bad behavior. Good boundaries are so critical, and it is perhaps one of the hardest things we have to teach kids - share, don't share, be tolerant, but don't be walked on, etc. This book does a really good job of showing kids how they can be tolerant without being walked on. That path is through boundaries and forgiveness. Give it a go - we read it prior to buying, but I would buy it just based on the book itself. It is good.

The Juice Box Bully: Empowering Kids to Stand Up For Others
I bought this book to read to my kindergarteners to help them understand that they need to stand up against bullies. The story line was alright for this purpose, but I was surprised that the illustrations and situations showed older kids. I felt the name was a little misleading because I expected the characters to be younger. Overall, I could still use it in the classroom, but I was disappointed with the pictures.

Good representation of bullying & ways to react
Just got this book today and read it to my 5-year old who is about to start kindergarten. I like how the book is written but I would say that it’s probably more suited for kids ages 7+. My son understood that what the “bully” was saying & doing wasn’t nice but I don’t think he quite grasped the concept of what a bystander is and the meaning of the promise that the book refers to often.

Fantastic Character Ed Book
This book is great for character Ed education in bullying. it has A very cute oath that I love to hand out to my students after reading it. The kids are very entertained by the story and it allows them to reflect on their own experiences. I read it to my fourth graders, and make a complete leak out of this book. This book is Nonsense
I stopped reading this to My 6 year old after 3 pages. First it Reads like a Pre School Manual for a Cult , All the ( kids?) Teen sized Drawings That talk like 4 year olds. In a Rose Colored World this book would still be a joke .It’s not up to a 6 Year old to help a Bully determine the root cause of a Bullies behavior issues, nor Teach them how to behave. One for the Bin

Wanted to love it
The message behind the book is good, but the message is somewhat lost due to the writing style. It is very wordy and the dialogue is very formal and not "real" or relatable to children.

Teachers need this! A new way to deal with "Bullying" Behaviour!
Great read. It changed my perspective on how to deal with bullies. We think the individual can do so but a team effort that is only there to make sure everyone is being kind to each other has a better chance at success!

moralistic
After reading the review on the listing bought it for my son. After reading the story thought it was a bit moralistic in a way that I didn't totally agree with. The good kids seem to apply an ideaology of the good, and find that conservative .
