cheap, ugly and overpriced
This print-on-demand book is an overpriced, cheap-looking, abysmally designed, waste of money. The few photos included are all black and white, of low resolution, with some distorted to fit the page. Overall, this no-effort spared paperback is best avoided if you're a big fan (like me) of the Savini's remake of Romero's classic, as this will raise questions regarding one's taste, it's that badly produced.

I do love it but……
I do like this book. A lot! Two things to mention however for everybody to consider before parting with their hard earned cash. Is it the version ‘we’ve never seen’ ? Absolutely not. This is a collection of story boards showing what is about 90% recognisable. It does contain elements of ‘this is what I wanted to do but couldn’t, or ‘this was cut out/censored’ but ultimately I did not experience a sort of ‘wow’ moment when reading it.Nevertheless Savini clearly has a passion for this flick and I loved reading a bit about what his original vision was. It’s just that I wanted more! Not a few lines dotted about on the bottom of storyboard images.Secondly the price. It’s a bit steep given what you get. The book is almost like a graphic novel which is fine but over £20 for it is quite high.Overall the book is a great read if you like Savini’s version of NOTLD and for that I would recommend it. Just be aware it’s not quite what it claims to be

Storyboards from the movie

Essential piece of cinematic history
It's not often that you can actually see a directors vision BEFORE he makes his film. Tom Savini had a heck of a time bringing his revised version of NOTLD to life. All the usual BS that comes with making a film, including budget cuts, placed him in an awkward place for sure. What this book does is wonderful! It shows you what his real vision was! And its magnificent! Savini really created an update that would have been a classic if they let him do his thing! If I was a rich man, I'd give him the money to make THIS version. If you are a fan of his film, this will really floor you! My God, what it could have been. This book is cinema archaeology. Its is raw, visceral and highly entertaining. The mind reels as you imagine just how amazing his true vision would have been. Keep in mind, it is just a book of the original storyboards but that's all we need. Essential reading for all true horror fans and those who love NOTLD 1990.

Original story boards
It's the original story boards with narrative, a few words from the actors and some behind the scene shots. I like everything about it save the price. It's basically a graphic novel.

Misleading pitch, Awesome Book
Is this really the version you haven’t seen before? Well, no. Sure there are some things that maybe weren’t in the movie or got changed somewhat, but describing this book as providing new storylines or massively different plot points is kind of misleading. Rather it is a collection of the storyboards of a 90% recognizable film, that I would argue rivals the original NOTLD in almost every way. Yes there are some twists and turns here and there, and yes many of them would have been cool to see, but nothing will blow your mind. “Barbara was supposed to have seen a spider” um ok. “Tommy was supposed to catch fire THEN die.” Eh, cool? “Barbara was originally going to have hallucinations.” Hmm... sounds unnecessary. That said, I loved every minute of this book just as I adore the film from which the storyboards originate, and I would definitely recommend it to anyone who feels the same.
