Gorgeous book..information and illustrations
Living in the era of Google Maps, we can locate the places with precision even to street level. Go two decades back, we had satellite images to see how the world looks. And before that... starts the history of cartography spanned over many centuries which helped people visualize the world through maps. In absence of means to validate the truth, everything contributed to it ...Mythology, deception, treachery, politics, brave adventures, imperialist, businessman, natural phenomenon. It is all this book is about.Very well supported by clear and crisp antique maps and illustrations, this is a visual delight to read the history. Author must have put tremendous amount of study and effort to produce this wonderful compilation. At couple of places, it becomes bit monotonous as if reading research paper. A good editor could have made it more interesting but nevertheless it does not diminish the value of the work.Another good aspect is wonderful bind of the book, long size, sturdy hardback and really really wonderful dust jacket with its archeological look. A perfect for bibliophiles. This review is for hardback edition published by Simon and Schuster (ISBN : 978-1471159459)
