Great value, excellent upgrade to cluttered hard drives everywhere.
I'm a film maker and photographer and with files sizes getting bigger all the time I got over my phobia of all things labelled 'Raid' and took the plunge. I'm glad I did as it's all very simple.Insert standard hard drives (NAS drives are best because they don't constantly spin and last longer / are made for storage) and away you go. The first two bays are for a Raid setup. All this means is that you put two identical sized drives in to them, turn the switch on the side to 'Raid 1' and you only see one drive on your machine. The second 'disappears' and is automatically written to so you have a perfect duplicate of your drive should it die. Just what I need.I have an archive drive in the third bay that I am slowly watching back up to Backblaze online and will do the same with the fourth and fifth bays as the archive fills over time. Job done.It really is extremely simple. Don't be put off when you take it out of the box by how light it is - once you add the drives the weight shoots up and it sits very stably on your shelf. Finally a professional, reliable system for storing all my precious data. Couldn't be happier with my choice.

Good construction, but unable to create virtual drive in Windows
I planned to use this to backup a 16TB NAS. It is sturdy construction and very easy to set up. I especially like the screw-less attachment of the drives.I decided to buy this specific unit based on the price and seeing someone on YouTube create a virtual drive in Drive Management so that all 4 would be seen logically as one drive. When I went to do that, everything worked great until I hit "finish", which is when Widows gave me a "not supported by device" error. When I went back to check the video, he was using a Mac. I can't believe it supports that feature on one platform and not the other. I have no use for 4 separate drives. If that doesn't matter to you, it's a great unit.

Fast Transfer Speeds, but this has no RAID feature.
Some of the photos of this D4-300 are misleading, as it says RAID on the front, which I believe applied to earlier versions of this drive. If you install 4 HDDs into this, after initialising them they will show up as 4 separate drives with their own letter. So, it will look like having four external drives attached to your computer. You might be able to use a software RAID tool on it, but I haven't tried it yet. Transfer speeds using USBC - USBC cable are about 170 MB/s.

Absolutely dreadful.. don't but it if you care about your data...
First of all, this thing is far too expensive for what it does. At nearly 270 USD at time of this review, this is an absolute rip-off. The hardware used it very limited and old, to the extent that you cannot even extract the drive IDs from the hard drives (not easily at least).Thermals are quite terrible as well, and I would not trust the built-in RAID controller for a second. If you use your drives stand-alone, i.e. a 5 individual drives, you are probably o.k...For this price, the presented hardware and software is absolutely disgraceful. When I reached out to customer support, I did get answers, but unfortunately very unqualified ones. It took some virtual screaming to get somebody qualified to assist and even then, they had to acknowledge the limitations of their hardware... My advice: avoid at all cost.
