Difficult and pricey but it did the job so I'm happy
Like many of you I ran into the problem of removing an old light fixture only to find out there was no junction box behind it, as well as a pipe leaving no room for a junction box. When I saw this flat box I thought it could work. It comes with no instructions, but here's what I did.Attach the bracket with the teeth to the round box using the long screw. The round will go in a 4 inch hole that you cut out, the bracket will be behind the wall, teeth digging into the wall as you tighten the screw. A shorter screw didn't work for me as it didn't allow enough space to wiggle the bracket behind the wall.Once it's loosely in place, you tighten the screw to attach it firmly. You should not be able to move the round, it should be flush against the wall. I didn't end up using the short screw and the little rubber tube that came with the package. After install the long screw in the middle was in the way of the light fixture mounting plate. I used a bolt cutter to cut the screw shorter to make room for the mounting plate.I mounted a vanity light of about 8 lbs to it, no problem with that! Conclusion: Yes it's pricey for what it is, yes it's a pain to install, but it got a job done that I didn't see any other solution for, so I'm super happy that it solved my problem!

Problem solver
This solved our problem of centering powder room light over sink when renovating . Vent stack directly in the way, and of course no stud to attach to in the right place. Instructions would be nice, even a link. We found a video, that lead us to this product to use. One thing is the one screw provided too short to fit behind drywall, so substituted slightly longer one.Price pretty high,Glad we found one regardless.

Perfect for low depth installation.
My original fixture had no electrical box, and the new light fixture needed one. It was simple enough to install, and I feel very confident it is safe in its installation in such a narrow cavity due to internal plumbing stack n other utilities. It is sturdy enough to hold the weight of the light fixture as seen in my photos. I had a difficult time finding these at home centers, so I’m glad I found it for sale on Amazon.

Works, but too pricey.
Worked great. They don't sell these in my big box stores and when ya need one ya need it. I don't mind paying more for something I need in a hurry. But over $25 for a jbox is up there. 4 out of 5 for price.

Excellent pancake box for narrow wall installations
This pancake box worked extremely well for a light installation that had minimal clearance caused by a waste stack behind the drywall. Installation was straight forward although there were no instructions provided. Unfortunately the actual box I received was slightly different from the one pictured on Amazon (one mounting screw instead of 2 that was pictured on the manufacturer's website). Also, no instructions made it difficult to understand why two different screws (varying length) were included. Overall, the box worked as advertised and I would certainly buy again if needed.
